has anybody stayed here? they are having some major deals right now and we want to go to hawaii for our honeymoon. the pics make it seem like there is no place to sit on the beach..is that right? thanks!!
or...if you honeymooned in hawaii, where did you stay?
Hiya! The Ritz Kapalua is gorgeous! We didn't have the pleasure of staying there, but went to the beaches adjacent to the property. I'd call them, and inquire about beach access. There are so many stunning beaches nearby, a short walk or drive, for snorkeling, lounging etc. We stayed at the Sheraton Black Rock (we love to snorkel). We went to every beach on the West, and some in the South. The South was much windier than the Kaanapali area. In any case, you'll love Maui. We're headed to Oahu, Kauai, and Big Island next, but can't wait to return to Maui.
eta From what I recall, the beach area isn't that large, but it is beautiful. I'd confirm with them just in case.
I didn''t stay at the Ritz Kapalua, but we honeymooned in Hawaii. We stayed at:
Four Seasons- The Lodge at Koele on Lanai
Four Seasons- at Wailea, Maui
Hotel Hana-Maui
Four Seasons Hualalai- on big island of Hawaii
We loved all of them except for the FS Wailea on Maui. Others disagree and love that hotel, but we found it way too big and impersonal and crowded. Wailea feels like Southern California. That being said, it''s very nice and definitely has its own beach. I think if we went back we would check out Kapalua.
But I highly recommend all of the others. The Hotel Hana-Maui is at the end of the Road to Hana. A lot of people don''t think the drive is worth it, but it definitely is if you stay the night (or more) at the Hotel Hana. It''s quiet, secluded, absolutely beautiful, has a great spa and some of the most fantastic food. It does not have a beach though there are many (including a beautiful black sand one) nearby. We would go back in a heartbeat. We stayed in a cottage right at the edge of the ocean and woke up to horses running along the edge.
i''ve heard that about the rain as well! the wedding is in november and i think that is already getting into rainy season for hawaii....ive heard normal summer months are the drier months. i would love to stay at the ritz, but i would be miserable if we were rained on during most of our honeymoon! i have also been spending a lot of time on the fodors site.
tyty: how did you like Kauai?
ChinaCat: what were the main differences between the big island and lanai? we were considering both of those.
ideal honeymoon would be beautiful beaches, maybe some shopping, great restaurants...we don''t want to be isolated in a hut, but we don''t want to feel like we are in the middle of a huge city either. we really would like to stay in a resort that has amazing rooms (like the ritz), but with sandy beach access, and in a location that is not so prone to rain.
I just started looking into going to Hawaii too! We want to do 2 islands--thinking Maui and Kauai, anyone have any thoughts on that? We want outdoor adventure and beach time, I think. And any suggestions on places to stay on Kauai or Maui? We have starpoints so are hoping to find a westin/sheraton for at least part of time. Thanks all!
EM1--what did you decide about your honeymoon? We''re also probably going to scrap South Africa for now because of the economy. I''m sad!
Coco: We''re staying at the Hyatt in Kauai.... And I am so, so, SO excited!
Not only did other PSers give it rave reviews, but the online reviews are also phenomenal.
How much time are you staying in Hawaii? We''re only going for 5 nights, so we opted for one island v. island hopping. I have heard time and time again that Kauai is a great island for relaxation and activities like hiking and sailing, but more removed from hokey, touresty things and major crowds.
