I''m thinking about purchasing a ring at Robbins Bros because of their insurance policy. I''d like to guard against mishaps such as if the ring gets damaged or the diamond falls out. However, I understand they don''t cover theft/loss, which means I''d have to get extra insurance through a company like Chubb or Jewelers Mutual. Does Chubb or JM cover a ring getting damaged? If they do, I might as well go with them and not by a ring at Robbins Bros.

Check me, but I believe they do, and agree with your analysis.

Most major insurance policies, including the standard policies issued by both Chubb and JM include coverage for accidental damage. I’m not familiar with the details of the Robbins Bros. policy but some of the retailer programs will cover some of the routine maintenance expenses like retipping and rhodium plating but this is rarely enough of a benefit to make the difference in where you buy. The ‘buy it as you need it’ type solution to maintenance rarely requires a budget of more than about $40/year and the fine print type restriction of needing to have all work done at the same store can be decidedly inconvenient if you move out of the neighborhood.

.......not to mention the huge cost savings of buying the stone somewhere else. My experience with them was very disturbing---they were bringing out dog stones with very VERY high price tags...........
They do however have an amazing selection of settings.

Robins bros isn''t a great place to buy jewelry from, please do a search before buying from them. Many here have had less than satisfactory experiences with them.

Chubb and jewelers mutual cover damage.

I agree that insurance from the jeweler is not what you want. You want a more compehensive policy that covers virtually all risks.

It''s not an insurance policy at all. All it is, is a service plan like any one of a hundred retailers have available.
