A couple of weeks ago the weather predicted rain so I decided to pull down my hanging baskets off my porch and let them get some "natural" water. Well, in one of the baskets I discovered a perfectly formed nest. I''ve seen the very pregnant mama around our porch and even in the nest from time to time. Well today, i decided to grab a stool and peek inside without disturbing the basket and this is what I saw:

It was such a cool picture I wanted to share it..

Aww, great pic!! Can''t wait for the baby birdies to hatch!!!

Oh, I love that picture! You should post it in the gallery!

And keep us updated! I want to see those baby birds!

the funny thing is, i couldn''t even see the picture screen when I took the pic. just held my camera up and clicked. Even hubby, who is the photo pro in the family was impressed

. I''ve been trying to catch a pic with the mama in the nest. If I get one, I''ll post it and I definitely will post when they hatch. my kids are loving watching nature in progress..

THAT is so awesome!!!! What a beautiful nest and beautiful blue eggs in there!!!! What a wonderful thing to have grace your home, and for your kids to see! When I was growing up there was a pregnant wild bunny running around and we had little bunny babies hopping around our yard. It was so cool!

That''s beautiful!! Those eggs are just a lovely shade of blue...I bet the mama is scared if she saw you lurking hehe.

When my hubby got home and i told him what I did, the first thing he said was "you didn''t touch anything did you?" I told him no, I was very careful, but I don''t want keep lurking and scare the mama either. We hardly use the front door, so it''s normally pretty quiet out there for her

Real honest to God blue robin''s eggs! That picture is wonderful - thanks for sharing!

Mrs.Salvo--just in time for Easter--what a beautiful picture and one of those priceless glimpses of nature that are rare and special moments in our lives. As soon as I saw the pic I exclaimed to my husband "oh, come look at this!" He says "honey, I can''t look at everything you see on pricescope!" He''s such a GUY sometimes, lol!

Now I see why they called it "Robin''s egg Blue"!

Last year, we had Starlings nest on our porch. I learned quite a bit by joining a bird forum. For example, touching the nest/eggs does not make the mother abandon the nest. Giving her a wide berth helps though. Now all she will do is sit on the eggs for the vast part of the day.

Keep us posted!

thank F & I, I''ll have to check out a couple of bird forums. my kids sit by the front door just staring at the basket hoping to catch a glimpse of the mama. i am determined to get her picture sitting up there.

Leonid gave me the address - I think it''s www.birdforum.net - helpful friendly folk.

Just a word of caution: If you see any Crows, Purple Grackles or Blue Jays, try to chase them away from the nest. They''ll be after the eggs (and the babies, when they hatch.)

I agree with everyone above :)

Beautiful picture - and please, update when you can.

What a gorgeous picture! While we are on the subject of birds, F&I disspelled the myth about touching the eggs and the parents not caring, that goes for the babies too. Birds have little sense of smell, so if a baby falls out of the nest, it''s okay to put it back.

I hope you get to see the whole cycle of babies hatching and learning to fly : )

I wish you well,

Bridget

Oh mrssalvo, that picture is just incredible! The colors are spectacular--what gorgeous eggs! Please keep us posted on what happens next!

Thanks for sharing...what vivid colors! We have Brown Thrashers that return each year to nest in our hanging baskets. One year we had a huge king snake crawling directly up our front door (in an attempt to get to the nest), a visitor thought is was a rubber snake!!

What a lovely picture!!!! Your hubbies got some competition! LOL! You captured the scene wonderfully, and the colors are amazing!
