Hi guys

Have just signed up to the forum and this is my first post!

My partner and I will be getting engaged soon, once we save up for rings - buying house, booked holiday comes first. I just wanted to ask, we both love rose gold and while my partner wants a plain band, i want a similar band with either an emerald cut or asscher cut diamond. In a tension or semi-tension setting. Ive seen Kennys and Gregs asscher rings, but just wanted to know if a yellow diamond would look nice with rose gold, or am i best to stick with a white stone.

And secondly, 9ct or 18ct gold? is there much difference in colour?

thanks

Kevin

as for the color i personally do not think a rose gold would look good with a yellow diamond.
And as for the color, a rose gold will look pinker the lower the k, 9 will look a lot more pink, where 18 will look more copper

Personally, I find the following combinations most pleasing to my eyes. :))

White diamonds in white gold/plat./plad. settings.
Pink diamonds in rose gold settings.
Yellow diamonds in yellow gold settings.

Buy what you/your partner find pleasing to your eyes as it will be you guys who will be looking at this ring everyday. :D

Hi Kevin. :wavey: Contrats on your happy occasion. :appl:

I want to recommend a few companies.
I love Gelin Abaci for the tension settings (I have round diamond in a platinum one) and they do rose gold too. www.gelinabaci.com
If you want to save on the setting to put more money into the diamond you can consider Boonerings for tension settings, but they only work in Titanium.
We put the Octavia Asscher into one of these and it lets light in all around the diamond for even more of a light show. http://www.boonerings.com/stone-settings/sidegrooves.htm
The good thing is their rings are priced in the hundreds, not the thousands, and their turn around time is days not weeks.

Next, Goodoldgold rocks for asschers and emerald cut white diamonds.
Please consider an Octavia asscher.
The Octavia I gave my partner practically causes stampedes in public.
It's like wearing a fireworks display.

Next if you decide on a yellow diamond I heartily recommend Leibish & Co. at www.fancydiamonds.net .
Over the years I've bought 20 FCDs from them and returned 8, and every transaction went flawlessly.
They are honest and reputable and have an incredibly huge inventory of Yellows for every budget.
They are in Israel, but there's never been any tax or duty added and never a lost package.

As to what color of stone 'goes' with what color of metal that's totally personal preference.
The color of gold alloys depends on what other metals, and how much, are used in the recipe.
This means that 9 kt 14 kt or 18 kt can look several different colors.

Hi Kevin

You have been given great advice from Kenny. I would trust those recommendations.

Good luck with the design, purchase and up coming engagement. Of course, come back and post a gazillion photos! It's mandatory!

Most of all- enjoy the process- it is all very exciting!

Thanks guys - a nice number of responses for my first post....

Greg - dont worry, i shall take plenty photos when I get the stone, then the ring. Ive always been obsessed with gemstones since I was younger and am now starting to pay attention to all the important factors when selecting a diamond.

Thanks for all your recommendations Kenny - however, sending me the Gelin Abaci link was very naughty - too many to choose from! I absolutely adore your Octavia - definitely want one of them - I had better get saving.....

Thanks

Kevin

I would agree with yellow diamond with yellow gold, but I think a white diamond looks fine in rose gold, and I think white and yellow diamonds look good in white metals. I have read something here about rose gold not being as hard as some others (meaning it may scratch more), so do ask about that before you have your rings made.

I will second Good Old Gold as an outstanding choice for an asscher or Octavia! My asscher came from GOG and I love it!

Okay, cool. thanks! I have heard that about rose gold - i love the colour as its so unusual.

Ive seen a few images online with rose gold bands set with yellow diamonds and they look quite nice, but I guess it is just personal opinion. I am seeing a few diamonds this weekend and hopefully it will be a success.......

Hi guys

Spoke to a diamond broker today after meeting up with him to look at some stones and have decided on a radiant yellow diamond. Im still having it set in rose gold but with the edges of the ring where it meets the diamond to be yellow gold and a yellow gold basket to hold the stone in to really intensify the yellow diamond.

My partner is having a rose gold ring with a white emerald cut stone with platinum edges where the ring meets the stone!!

Cant wait........

I just found your thread and I was thinking that you could get a rose gold band and have a different color metal holding the diamond itself. Sounds like you got there, and, done right, your rings will look amazing.

Looking forward to photos as you proceed with these projects. :wavey:

:appl:

Thanks Fly Girl. Great minds think alike.....

I'm looking forward to seeing what you two get.
Lots of pics please.

Don't worry, Kenny. My SLR with macro lens is my best friend...

kevin, here is a ring that came to mind when you were describing your diamond. However, this is the semi tension ring by Diamonds by Lauren. I was comtemplating this ring when another project came into mind. Is this similar to what you were thinking about, except this is in yellow gold? there are some that are also in rose gold setting. Just curiouser and curiouser about you and your partners designs!!! =) =)

ETA the title of the pic is incorrectly labelled as rose gold - its yellow gold

I look forward to seeing both rings!!! :appl:

Yeah Greg, that's the one. Have seen that ring already, its beautiful.

The fancy I have purchased is only 0.4ct but its amazing!!! Getting excited now. And Owen went from being set on having a black sapphire to getting one of the 0.46ct emerald cuts he had to offer instead. Beautiful stones.

Great Stuff guys! So- how long before you get the rings? 2-4 weeks?

Greg

I think it's at least four weeks to make them here in the UK - they are rather slow. Will be soon for us having them started but we have to sort out the holiday in June first. Oh to have endless amounts of money!!

Oh yes- the money tree is somewhere...... in SOMEONE else's back yard!!!!

When you find it- send it our way..... hehehehehe

Welcome Kevnick! I love your ideas for the bands you and your SO are choosing!! And sounds like you've both picked out amazing ones for each of you!!

I the one by DBL because it is so sleek and very sophisticated in its clean lines. Is this the design that you went for?

Hi Enerchi

Yeah, it's very similar to that one. The yellow gold that will be next to the stone will step it up one or two colours in the fancy ladder. I've always wanted a yellow diamond...

This is how Owens ring will look with the emerald cut. The band will be smoother though, more curved.

oooh!!! Love that design Owen has chosen - with an EC in there - INCREDIBLE! :appl:
