Rose Gold with Which Stone?

Hi everyone,

I have a rose gold setting and have been looking for the perfect stone to set in it. Recently, I saw a poster who posted up a pic of her green tourmaline ring. And I thought, what a beautiful combination! But I'm torn between a green tourmaline (med/dark green), a pink tourmaline (it's more of a maroon pink), and a rhodolite garnet (med red with purple). I don't have pics of the stones, but looking. I can't afford sapphires or emeralds at this moment.

Between tourmaline and garnet, which stone is better? Which color do you think is best with rose gold? If anyone has any suggestions, please do let me know!

I really love the look of a green stone with rose gold. Between a garnet and a tourmaline, though, I would rather have a garnet as I think they hold up to wear better.

Do you have pictures of the stones?

The colour variations between green tourmalines (light through to dark) and pink tourmalines (same again) are huge. Some may look good with rose gold, others may not. Neither tourmaline or garnet are particularly better than the other. I wouldn't wear either every day but if this is an occasion ring then pick the stone where you love the colour and go from there!

Thanks for the replies. I'm still looking for the stones. Any suggestions of where I can start?

I know that rose gold might not hold up as well as other metals so I just wanted to know between the two...tourmaline or garnet which would hold up better over time.

My real question is do you already have a setting? If you do then post pictures as that will really determine what size and shape stone you will need.

LD, are you admitting some stones might look good in rose gold???

I love mint green stones in rose gold. The only stones I do not care for in rose gold are stones that are red, pink or orange. I will say that with the caveat that a rose gold basket might enhance a pink stone, like a baby pink diamond, but I would make the rest of the ring white gold in that particular case.

*Takes huge gasp and palpitates* Noooooooooooooooooo of course not TL. You know my aversion to rose gold (unless with pink diamonds) but I was trying to be objective! My idea of a nightmare is rose gold ring with a green stone but hey, I'm in the minority!
