So my MOH and I went dress shopping today. I was prepared not to love how I looked in anything, but i was suprised, i was pleased. I knew that I wanted the davids bridal dress with the red accents. I''ve been lusting over it for months. So when i go to the store they only had it in a size too small for me. I squeezed into it, and it looked okay. I kinda liked it. My camera battery died, so i took pics with my cell. The dress looks aweful! How could I think it looked good? Do you think that if I had the right size it would look better? Supposedly everyone looks good in an Aline, i sure didnt. I''m disheartened because I really thought I would love this dress, now I''m posting in on the fridge for my weight loss motivation. They say you know the dress as soon as you try it on, and well....I dont know.

here is the other dress i tried on. It isnt spectacular but shows that my figure is really not as horrific as it looks in the first one. I know this dress looks better on, but I dont really like the dress. Whats a girl to do?

Hi,
I really like the second dress better. The red edging on the first dress is very distracting and takes the focus away from your face.

Maybe shop around some more!

I really like the first dress, but I think the second dress is truly beautiful on you. If you aren''t happy with it, then shop around some more. I am sure that you will find a great dress and know that it is *the one*. Don''t get discouraged!! Please keep us posted!!

i like the second one too. it''s not too busy or too plain. there are so many gowns out there, you''ll find the perfect one.

You are right that that second dress looks better on you, but it really may be due to the fact that first dress was way too small for you. Its just too tight in your waist. You CERTAINLY don''t look like you need to lose weight though! Is there another store nearby that may have the dress in a bigger size?

The fact that the first dress was too small is going to make it look a lot worse than it would when you have the right size. So can you find another David''s Bridal in your area that might have your size? I wouldn''t lose hope until you try on the right size dress.

Also, I must say, you don''t look like you need to lose weight!

I agree, I don''t like the waist on the second one, though they are very popular because they do make waists look smaller. But like I said, it sure looks like you have a small waist to begin with!

Did you try on other dresses at David''s Bridal? When I went, I was so picky, but the lady made me try on at least one dress in every style. I found a lot of dresses that I never would have thought looked good on me!

Please keep us updated on your search!!

Number One just doesn''t fit. You can''t properly evaluate a dress that doesn''t fit.
Is there are a Davids near you that has a sample in your size? Call around.

The Second one is nice. If you don''t love it - keep looking.
This was just your first trip.

Scintillating...

I really like that second dress on you, it''s very flattering as it is asymmetrical so it kind of draws the eye down and to an angle.

That first dress is really distracting, I agree...it would probably look better if it fit correctly as well rather than being too tight (never flattering!)..but I just don''t love that red stripe thing...esp with the large expanse of white in between the two red stripes.

I wouldn''t nix the first option if you were that in love with it originally, try to find a store that has it in your size so you can really try to see what it would look like.

Sorry to say that I didn''t *know* the dress when I tried it on. I could have liked a few. Nothing was SOOOO amazing on me...I think I''m pretty picky as well about things that I wear so I could find flaw with almost everything!

I finally decided on something because I was tired of looking and didn''t want to overspend so I found a dress that looked nice on me, everyone raved about it, my fam and friends loved it and I fit into the size 8 sample (SCORE!) so I got it at a discount and it had hardly been tried on.

Keep looking and don''t be discouraged! Also sometimes those photos in the dressing rooms are NOT flattering at all depending on the angles they are taken at...the photographer for your wedding knows all the tricks of the trade to make you look your best, keep that in mind!

Don''t get discouraged!

I LOVED several dresses that I tried on, then when I looked at the photos I couldn''t BELIEVE that I thought I looked good in them! I guess sort of the same experience that you went through? Maybe it has something to do with the lighting in those stores. I actually tried on your first dress, but with cream accents instead of red. I thought it was the closest to the "one" for a while until I found my actual "one." Same thing with it, though, I thought it looked great in the store, my friend took a bunch of pictures, and when I looked at them I didn''t like any of them.

I agree that the second dress is more flattering on your figure, but who doesn''t look better in a dress that actually fits?
Keep looking (in your size---few people ever look great when the SQUEEZE into something, no matter how nice their figure is.)

You look great, and shouldn''t get down on yourself at all.
Good Luck!
tybee

I agree that the second one looks better but the red one could look just as good in the right size.
You DO NOT need to lose weight. Look how tiny that waist is!

I''m sure you could find the red in another size. I know we have tons of David''s Bridals around the Chicagoland area. Don''t give up on the dress you love!

Good Luck!

I agree with what pretty much everyone else is saying - find the red one in your size!!! You really can''t tell how it''s going to look when it fits properly when the too-small size is all you''re basing it on! If you really love that one (and it is beautiful!) then find one that fits you so you can see it drape nicely and then you won''t have that squished effect so you''ll be able to actually pay attention to the beauty of the dress!

Ditto, ditto, ditto! Don't give up on the first dress till you try it on in your size!!! When they're too tight they NEVER look the right way! My SIL tried a dress on that was too tight for her but we loved the look of it, and could see the shape was flattering to her...when she received the one she ordered in her correct size...stunning!!

I do have to say that I LOVE the way the second dress looks on you too!!!!!

I agree with everyone on this one. The second dress really looks beautiful on you. Since you''ve been lusting over the first one though, I would try it on again in the correct size.

Another thought MsFlutter, if you can't find another David's Bridal with your size in the first dress, did the one you went to have that dress in a larger size? If so, try that on and have the woman at David's stand behind you and pinch it in the back. That way, you will get a better idea of how the dress would look in the right size. Plus, most of the time, if your MOH were to take a pic, you won't even see the lady behind you

.

This worked for me in many bridal salons because most of their samples were just too large for my small chest

LOL.

Hey MsFlutter,
I kept thinking about this all day, and will have to wait til I get home to post a picture, but it might just be that dress.
It might just not be the one!
I think it had a simiiar effect when I tried it on.
I''ll post when I get home... let''s not blame ourselves, let''s blame the dumb dress.
Maybe it has something to do with the material.
Tybee

Tybee, I also thought that the material on that first dress looked a bit unforgiving and odd! Such a contrast from the second one just even how the dress laid.

Mrsflutter,

I agree w/ what everyone else said. First of all, you don''t need to lose weight, you just need to find a gown in your size! You''ve got a great figure--everyone looks bad in clothes that are too small. I love the 2nd dress on you. I think the side draping at the waist flatters your tiny waist nicely & the all-white dress draws attention to your face. But if you don''t love it, it''s not the one.

As for the red-trimmed dress, maybe you could find it in your size or in a larger size & have it pinned in the back. If you''ve been dreaming of this dress for so long, it''s worth pursuing. As you guys know, I''d been salivating over many dresses online & when I tried them on in person, some just did nothing for me while others, often ones I didn''t like so much in pictures, were much more flattering to me. So you can''t really tell from shopping online. Also, I liked some when I tried them on, but looked back at pictures afterwards & wondered what I was thinking. It''s really a wonderful opportunity to see what a dress looks like on film before you buy it, wear it to your wedding & are photographed in it.

So, this is getting very long-winded, but my advice is not to give up on the red-trimmed dress yet, but to keep your mind open to other possibilities as well. Keep us posted!

I like #2...I like the ''ruffled up'' (bad choice of wording) look in the middle. #1 is pretty but probably because it''s not the right size for you it doesn''t work. Have you tried other David''s Bridal in your area to see if they have the same dress in the right size.

Both dressed are very pretty though.

I love #2 on you, but remember it is your choice!
2.gif

I like #2 as well, but the first one didn''t fit so who''s to say what one in your size would look like.

OK, I''ll admit I''m bias because I''m 99% sure I''m going to get the first dress in all white (for those of you not familiar with it, it also has a corset back). I also tried on the second dress, and it didn''t do a thing for me, my mom or the sales lady. :)

If you like the first one, I would do what everyone else said and try to find it in your size. The first time I tried it, I picked a size too large and it just sorta hung there. When I finally got the right size, the difference was like day and night!

I agree here. I tried on the first dress and I just LOVED it. (although it was a little big) But I was able to try it on in my own size. WELL>>> THEN!!!! IT was amazing.. I really LOVED it. Any dress is going to look horrible when it is the wrong size.. especially too small. I tried on both the dresses you have here. They both have the SAME lines and the red one is going to fall (when it fits rights) just as nicely and as well as the 2nd dress. The A-line looks fine.. it''s just the size. So do not give up. Try it on in a different color in your size and you will see what I mean. Also... I too LOVE the corset back...

ugh,
maybe I shouldn''t post this. I don''t want to confuse you more--but the more I look at the picture of me in that dress, the more that I think there''s something strange about the material at the waist.
This is the one, in the mirror I thought I looked spectacular, but in the photos I thought the dress made me look dumpy.
Ms. Flutter, it might be the dress material...

creamtrim.jpg

um, I''m an idiot about posting pictures, that one was too small...let me try this one, it better illustrates teh "dumpy" factor.

creamtrim2.jpg

one more,
same girl, same waist,
but different look.
Basically, a whole lot less dumpy.

(another dress that I didn''t buy...but only because this one was way too expensive!)

frenchfrill.jpg

When I tried on the dress... the lady told me that the top part was supposed to come up a lot further than how you are wearing it in the first pictures.. almost to your armpits... The waist is an A-line and if you pull it up to the right place.. it will be the A-line. If it is pushed too far down then the waist is almost empire. When we had it ''positioned'' correctly it look good, There is no peeky cleavage for this dress.. that is not how it is supposed to be worn.. from what I was told.

under the armpits, that sounds uncomfortable...

i think it''s just the material personally. that second dress is great tybee, i love the folds and it makes you look so elegant!

i really just am not a huge fan of that typical aline thicky satiny material like that band dress, i think it flatters not very many people...the softer materials that drape are more flattering imo to more gals.

thanks Mara,
isn''t that a pretty one? I thought it was the ONE until I asked the price. That was dress was the infamous
DANGER dress. The one that you should never try on because you could never afford it...
I''m going with Maggie Sottero''s Ophelia...can''t wait for it to come.
But sorry to hijack your thread flutter.
My advice is try on a million other ones!
It''s out there!

I think you need to try on way more dresses. I know we all sound like a broken recordabt this but it''s so true!! The dresses I loved in pics looked like crap on, vice versa!
I think the second one is more flattering but if you don''t love it don''t get it. Try to find the first one in yoru size... and try on more dresses!!
