ok, lots of good advice from folks here. I''d say I like the second dress better right now, although I will tell you that you look lovely in both. What I will suuggest, ask...beg...hope...and wait for is for you to go out to a few more bridal shops, and try on LOTS more dresses. Then perhaps pick let''s say your 5 or more favorite ones (and these 2 can be part of those), post MORE PICS (because so many of us love to share in your shopping experience), and ask us for more feedback. It''s so fun to have choices I think, and who knows, you might find a dress that you would have never considered and just love it. Only time and shopping will tell.

Okay any chance this odd fitting of the dress is partially because of the way you are hold your arms in the first picture vs the second? None the less the ladies are right go and try on a gazillion dresses. Ask a knowledgeable sales girl what she thinks would suit you. Even if you don’t like it, try it. You could always find one thing or element that is really flattering to you and be able to zoom in on that when looking for dresses.
Oh and your figure is super cute! Your bike rides and gym trips are definately working for you!

msflutter--I think you are too hard on yourself, you have a very cute figure!!! I wouldn''t stress too much over weight loss b/c you look really good right now!

But about the dresses, I like the second one on you much more than the 1st one. Keep trying them on...be open to what the sales girls bring you b/c most of them do know what styles look good on what figures.

I tried on about 30 dresses all totalled. I wonder if any of us totally loved our "dream dress" when we actually put it on our bodies. Things look different in pictures on anorexic models than they do on real women.

So don''t get discouraged, keep trying, and be positive about your body b/c you really look great!!

msflutter- just wanted to agree w/ everyone else that you have a really cute figure! I am sure dress #1 will look better in the right size, but I don''t think I personally LOVE it. The second one looks amazing though!!

More dresses, more dresses!!

The more that I look at the pictures (like 20 times a day) i agree, the first one looks much better on tall models in the ads than it does on me. And i only tried on 2 dresses. However, i really wanted to love an inexpensive dress. I think its silly to spend too much on a dress. Saying that I made an appointment at Ultimate Bride on Oak street for the Alvena Valenta Trunk show. One of my customers at work said I had to go to it, so I made an appointment today. I dont know anything about dress but I know I will now fall in love with a $3000 dress, which is exactly why I went to Davids, to avoid overspending. But i want to look pretty and maybe if I have something made I will feel pretty?????? Yeah, i know it makes no sense. My father thinks i''m insane as well.

Msflutter, the key is try on all different types of dresses! I''m sure if you went back to David''s and started trying on different dresses left and right, you would find some beautiful dresses that would look fabulous on you at a reasonable price! Trying on two dresses is just not going to work!

And remember, just because you don''t like it on paper or on the rack, try it on anyway! What is the worst that is going to happen?! So go and try on dozens of dresses!!!

Well, what is your budget? are you buying or will your parents throw in a few bucks too
2.gif
. There was a poll not too long ago about how much people spend on wedding dresses. The results are a pretty even spread it seems, which is pretty interesting. Trust me you will be able to find something in your budget so give yourself a chance to enjoy the experience. Clearance sales (ask HouMedGal) , multiple designers (not only david''s, my MS dress didn''t break the bank), e-bay sales (ask BrightSpot). Have some fun with it.

I don''t even know that height is the issue. I think there''s just something about the fabric & the cut that''s not flattering. Also, it bothers me that you can see the darts in the waist so well. I tried on a heavy white satin dress & wanted to take it off almost immediately. I felt like a sausage.

Yeah, I didn''t want to spend a lot of money on a dress either. There are so many avenues you can pursue, though. First, maybe you should go back to David''s & try on more dresses. I found several there I liked when I was shopping. Also, you can try on some dresses by lots of different designers, then try to find them for a lower cost online. (Bridesave, Pearl''s Place, RK Bridal, etc.) Or you could get a designer bridesmaid dress in white or ivory. Or, if you really want a designer gown, perhaps you could find a used one. (check party pop, pre owned wedding dresses, etc.) And always keep an eye out for dresses on eBay.

But first, you need to try on a lot of dresses to find out what you like & what''s flattering on you. Try to be openminded--there were a few dresses I wouldn''t have looked at twice on the rack, but really liked when I tried them on. Don''t forget to post lots of pictures!

You will be a beautiful bride! (how could you not be?) You just need to find the dress that makes you feel like a million bucks! It''s out there...just keep looking!

Me again.

I just found this photo of a knottie in the first dress from David''s. Seems she has a similar issue w/ the fabric around the waist. I think it''s a dress issue...

Hmmm. All these photos of "waist weirdness" made me look for my photos in that dress. I didn''t have that issue. Everything was really smooth, and I am NOT thin. Far from it! (The photos are on my computer at home, so I can''t post them.) I guess the same dress just fits people differently. Like I said earlier, I tried on the second dress that the OP is wearing. It looks terrific on her, but it was definitely blah on me. That type of ruched waist didn''t work for me.

I too am far from thin.. and the fabris looked very smooth and flattering on me.. maybe some of these people see a corset and think they need to make it really tight... (I know that yours was too small Ms Flutter..) but the girl before this post looks like she is trying to pull that corset pre reconstruction tight.

I''ll bet that''s it! From what I can see, the dress does have the corset back, but doesn''t have boning or the kind of serious structure that would hold up to a good cinching without wrinkling the fabric & compromising the look of the bodice. Good call, mine! (And you have a great figure, girl!

Good point! I love the corset back, but it is definitely more decorative than functional, if that makes any sense...

Perfect sense!

I agree with Rascal--trying on two dresses just isn''t going to cut it. And try other styles and put on everything the salesgirl brings you (that''s how I got my dress--I NEVER would have tried it on if I''d seen it on the rack).

Definitely try on more at the less expensive stores before you go to the couture trunk show--I''ve heard that once you see those couture gowns, where apparently there is a difference in quality of construction, fabric, etc., you may not WANT to go back to the cheaper gowns. Just a suggestion. YOu can always try on expensive gowns later if you don''t find something on a budget.

Good luck!! And don''t be down on yourself--you definitely can find something gorgeous for your body AND stay in your budget. You WILL feel pretty when you find "the one".

msflutter, I KNOW you had you heart set on the red dress. Please promise me you will try it on in the right size. Of course you feel like you look bad because it didn''t fit. I agree with MINE, the dress I bought (david''s bridal also!) is a thick satin white material and I feel like it is very forgiving. Also did you try on the dresses with their strapless/corset thing? That makes a HUGE differences. I was unsure of it at first but it is great. If you still thinks it looks bad try on 20, 30, 60 dresses there is something out there for you, I promise.

msflutter - after reading your last post, I can totally relate. First, let me say that in all the pictures of dress #1 (with you wearing it and the others with the cream bands instead of red), I just really don''t like the dress. It doesn''t look flattering on any of them. I think it may be the material, or the proportions of it, or who knows what?

{{{{{The more that I look at the pictures (like 20 times a day) i agree, the first one looks much better on tall models than it does on me. I can SSSOOOO relate. When I first started looking, I felt the same way - no sense spending lots on a dress you wear one day! So I found a dress for $125 that worked, and bought it mainly for the price and a few other factors (more practical than "I love it!"), without taking pictures in the store. (Wish I''d known you could do that when I went shopping.... sigh..) After I bought the dress and had pics taken, I really didn''t like it. It looked much better in the mirror in the store. Was never satisfied, but still tried to work with it. After a few months and some work by the seamstress, I hated it more than ever! It was only about 2.5 months to the wedding by now! For who knows what reason I went back to the bridal shop where I had tried on my first dress ever, which I loved, but didn''t buy for various reasons, including some alterations needed and the $1000 price tag. Well, by this time, it was down to $500. (It had been in the shop for a while and was discontinued.) Someone suggested making an offer, so I offered $300 and got it. It was SO MUCH PRETTIER than the other one (which I later sold to get my $125 back), and I was so much happier. It was all silk - silk velvet top and silk satin skirt, with very good quality beading at the scalloped basque waistline - well, anyway, I''m getting off on a tangent - it just was a great deal to get a better quality dress that I looked better in, without spending a mint.

I guess the main point of the story is, 1) try to find something you really do feel pretty in; you will be glad you did, and if you''re like me it will drive you crazy to get one just because it''s cheap, and wind up hating it, and 2) there may be ways to find a beautiful dress that is not too expensive - either a discontinued model, or second hand (there are lots of good dresses that either were never worn or maybe the bridal shop never sold or whatever) - in any case, look around and you might be surprised at what you find.

Oh, and the other main point of the story I was going to say is - trust your instincts. I found that when I was uneasy about the dress, for example, there was no solving it. it just was the wrong dress...

I really like the second dress better. But, if you''re not sure--keep shopping! You''ll eventually find something you absolutely love!

msflutter, I noticed you mentioned finding a dress in another thread; I was curious how things turned out after this thread. I am glad if you found what you wanted!!

So I did find a dress. I am going with the watters BM dress 5299. Here is a pic of it in red, which i initially wanted, but i think i am ordering it in all white then deciding if I want the seamstress to add a red sash and/or red ribbons later. (i love red)

This is not a picture of me. I have a few more curves than her, but it was the best pic of a real person i have seen in the dress.

Yay--what a fabulous dress! mrsflutter, I think there''s a knottie bride who ordered the dress in all white & has lots of pics of herself in it in her bio. I believe she spent a lot of time on the Destination Weddings board? She''s getting married at the Rockhouse in Negril if you want to post the question on The Knot. I think this dress will look fabulous on you!

I saw that you had posted in another thread also, but I''m so glad that you found a dress! And it''s just beautiful! Congratulations!!

That''s really pretty, MsFlutter. Did you get any pictures of yourself in it? I never would''ve even thought that was a bridesmaid dress.

mrsflutter, I found that knottie with your dress in white. Her bio is here & see pics below:

Gorgeous!

Thanks brightspot! I actually initially looked at the dress based on her pictures. I didnt think it would look good because she is taller and much thinner than I....But it does look good, really good! Something about having a little bit of hips actually helps in this dress! Only one of my pictures turned out from my camera phone and its a huge shot of my a** so I am not posting yet. Soon, i promise!
