OMG, I didn''t even know we had a gold thread! Thanks for telling me! I''ll go find it copy them over there too.

I just love these pictures where too much doesn''t seem to be enaugh.

Queen Victoria of Sweden, nee Baden, wearing the Leucthenberg Saphires.

It is said that The Leucthenberg Saphire parure is made from a belt (!!) that was part of Empress Josephine of the french people''s saphire parure. The saphires in the tiara can be replaced by large pear formed pearls, but I don''t think anyone since QV has worn the pearls...
The parure was a favorite of her sucessor, Q Louise, nee Battenberg/Mountbatten, who made the earrings out of two hairpins.

What is interresting about the picture is that QV is also wearing the Baden Fringe tiara over her chest. The tiara that she got as a weddingpresent from her parents and that she wore as a necklace on her wedding to the crown prince Gustav.
The tiara is a favorite of todays Crown Princess Victoria.

Queen Victoria again, slightly more casual, wearing the Baden Fringe tiara and the pearl choker that Princess Madeleine seems fond of today.

very cool photo. The fringe tiara is beautiful as a necklace!

Hi!

I really like the Baden Fringe tiara and I think it suits The Crown Princess really well. When I first understood about the upcoming wedding I thought it''d be nice to see this tiara on Victoria''s head (like Elizabeth II in 1947). Later I learnet that the Cameo tiara is kind of wedding tiara for the Bernadottes. I hope we''ll see it again as a necklace in the near future.

I have a question - On the GREMB this picture was posted in a discussion about a state visit from Holland to Sweden. What necklace is the Queen wearing? May this be the large amethyst necklace, that now is a tiara?

Thanks,

Bobby

This could be one of the emerald necklaces, it could be a sapphire (from the Leuchtenberg parure), or maybe it''s as you suggest, part of the amethyst parure when it was still a belt! How thrilling would that be?

Württemberg /Ornate Pearl Tiara

Some sources say that originally there was a pearl tiara that had belonged to Queen Sophie, born princess of Württemberg, who was the first wife of King Willem III. It was supposedly s a wedding present from her father King Wilhelm I of Württemberg and was created in 1839 by Jeweller A.H. Kuhn in Stuttgart. In 1897, along with many others pieces, this tiara was then altered by Jeweller Schürmann in Frankfurt for Queen Wilhelmina, who choose to wear this tiara for her first official portraits as Queen in 1898. Other sources say this tiara was newly created in 1897 (by Jeweller Schürmann) using diamonds and pearls from the Orange-Nassau collection. The Württemberg or Ornate Pearl tiara can be worn in four settings: either with all the drop pearls on top 1, with only drop pearls on the diamond bows 2, drop pearls between the diamond swirls 3 or without any drop pearls 4. Queen Juliana has only worn this tiara once or twice. Queen Beatrix wore the Württemberg Pearl Tiara in it''s full splendour at her 1966 wedding to Claus Von Amsberg and at a State Banquet in Great Britain in the 1980''s. Since then she has only worn the tiara with pearls between the diamond swirls or without any drop pearls.

Ears of Wheat Tiara

The Ears of Wheat Tiara consists of 8 so-called Ears of Wheat mounted on a simple wire frame. The tiara can be worn with 4, 6 or 8 ears of wheat. Queen Wilhelmina wore all 8 Ears on a silk bandeau in the 1930''s and in the 1950''s the tiara was first seen. The Ears of Wheat are said to have been brooches that belonged to Queen Sophie''s mother Catharina Paulowna Romanova. The ears of wheat motif was very fashionable at the beginning of the nineteenth century. Princess Irene was first seen wearing the tiara in its present shape with 4 ears of wheat in the 1950''s. Queen Juliana has also worn this tiara. It is now mostly worn by Princess Margriet, Queen Beatrix''s sister. She mostly wears the full 8 ears of wheat. Although commonly thought, Princess Margriet does not actually own this tiara. It''s still part of the Orange-Nassau Family Jewels. Princess Margriet''s daughters in law have all worn this tiara on their wedding day. Not surprising since the ear of wheat among other things symbolizes Fertility and Abundance: Demeter was the Greek Goddess of Agriculture and Fertility and her Priestesses wore (golden) ears of wheat in their hair. Although they were originally brooches, they have not been worn as such anymore.

Pearl Button Tiara

The tiara base consisting of diamond garlands now topped with large bouton pearls (pearl buttons) set in diamonds had once belonged to Queen Sophie. The current base resembles the upper part of the Oak Leaf coronet that was once worn by Queen Anna Paulowna and Queen Sophie but other sources say the base was once part of Queen Sophie''s Diamond Leaf coronet. Queen Sophie brought this diamond leaf tiara with her when she married the Prince of Orange (Willem III) in 1839. It is unclear when the original tiara was altered to its present shape but most likely in the 1960''s. The altered base is now topped with five large bouton pearls set in diamonds - that were once brooches - that had also belonged to Queen Sophie, as can be seen in the portrait below. Queen Sophie seems tohave had a large collection of '' pearl buttons'' as Queen Emma was photographed around 1881 wearing at least six smaller pearl buttons on her dress. Queen Wilhelmina attached several pearl buttons on the bodice of her dresses at the turn of the 19th century to fasten numerous strands of pearls. She also wore five pearl buttons attached to a '' hair comb'' in the 1920''s. The tiara in its current shape was first seen in 1967 on Princess Margriet''s wedding day: She choose it as her wedding tiara. Queen Juliana also wore this tiara on a few occasions. Queen Beatrix choose this tiara for her investiture in 1980 and has been wearing it ever since. It does suit her wonderfully well. In 2003 the base of the tiara was used to create a new wedding tiara, this time for Princess Maxima. The base was now topped with five of Queen Emma''s diamond stars.

The long amethyst necklace has been a belt? I thought that only this emerald and diamond necklace has been used that way at a time...

The shape of the coloured stones in the b/w photo look just like the amethysts - large and oval with diamond spaces between each stone. That''s why my conclusion is - the now converted amethyst necklace.

Thank you, Estelaris for the pictures of the Orange-Nassau collection!

Ears of Wheat Tiaras usually look better than this one. The Duchess of Teck, Queen Mary's mother, also owned a tiara with the so called Ears of Wheat motif. The Dutch tiara look like if the central ornament has been removed or has fallen during the party.

If I remember corectly Queen Victoria owned two (?) Ears of Wreath hair pins. There is a photo of QEII from the 1970-80's (I think)where she's wearing them. The problem is that I don't have that picture saved on my PC. Can someone post it, please?

Bobby

Till then hara is The Duchess of Teck with her tiara and the gorgeous Teck circle necklace:

I almost forgot Queen Anna Maria of Greece''s 63rd birthday! I had a lot of work to do yesterday and hardly any time for the net, that''s why my post is a little late.

Hare is a picture to commemorate the occasion. The young Majesty''s wearing the impressive emerald tiara and a diamond necklace with a coloured stone (emerald) pendant. I''ve wondered many times what happened with that necklace. Has anyone seen other pictures of it?

And another one of Anna Maria of Greece wearing the tiara, she inherited from her mother, Queen Ingrid of Denmark. As far as I remember the ocassion was Prince Joachim''s second marriage in 2008.

That''s amazing! These jewels have been in the storage rooms for more than 90 years and no one knew about them. It''d be interesting to understand who''ll get them as among Maria Pavlovna''s descendants are the Kents, the Leiningens and other royal and nobel houses.

And here is a photo of Empress Alexandra wearing the "impressive pearl kokoshnik" and other gorgeous jewels. As far as I remember this tiara/kokoshnik was dismantled and the diamonds and the pearls wear sold by the Bolsheviks.
