Some folks might know I was trying to find a ruby piece to celebrate the birth of my first baby (due 7/15). Silly little girl decided to come on 6/30, but I've still decided her birthstone is ruby haha.

Well, I'm glad it was taking me forever to decide on a ruby piece, because it turns out my mom had plans to gift me multiple pieces that I've never seen.

2 rings and 2 necklaces.

Ring #1. Purchased in India, 20k gold (I think). Ruby is likely from Mozambique since it doesn't quite have that ideal ethereal glow. I'm going to have DK resize since it's tiny.

Ring 2. Tiffany style alternating diamonds and rubies in 18k. Also tiny but fits my pinky so will stay this size for now.

And now for the special, high quality rubies.
I can't even describe the glow. The difference between Burmese and other rubies is insane.

I am very excited to wear these (and give the smaller necklace to my daughter when she's older)

Omg congratulations. Baby Girl is so loved already. And even more special that these pieces will have gone through 3 generations! I really love the four petal pendant. Such lovely pieces and how generous is your mum!

For the sake of interest and/or about phone cameras and gem color accuracy:

My mom's iPhone took this pic, which captures the red accurately:

My phone took this pic, which highlights/emphasizes pink more than seen IRL:

First of all... BIG CONGRATS on the birth of your baby girl! She sure knows how to make an entrance. Being a June baby myself, I concur with bumping her right on over to July. lol Your rubies, especially those in the band and pendants, are spectacular!! Enjoy them... oh and your little one!! tee hee

Wow talk about zero-to-60! Those are amazing. And, of course and more importantly, congratulations! Oh and on the baby, too :P2

My DD was due after my birthday (late July) and I had chosen her middle name to be Ruby. Like your darling cherub my DD also made an early appearance in June but there was no way I was giving her Pearl as a middle name so Ruby it was and still is.

Hi,
When you told us about the birth of your daughter I realized right away that she would not be getting any one of those rubies you were looking at on colored stones. Pearls are beautiful, but I wondered if you had purchased one of the rubies you were looking at. I guess you didn't, but mom came through with some beauties. Count on more surprises like an early entrance. Parenthood is full of them. Hope she is doing great, and you too.
