Hey guys. I want to say I am excited to be part of this community and was always a lurker and learned tons already. And now that my boyfriend and I have finally decided to get engaged I wanted to Join to lean some more ask a few questions.

So to the questions. I want a ruby as my main stone.Treated I am ok with. But I do want something that will last forever as this ring will most likely be passed down. I want a one carat ruby give or take in a halo setting. It can be square, round, oval or rectangle. I like them all. I will add a few pics. I would prefer the whole ring already made if possible. Budget would be 1,500, but there is some wiggle room as I've seen prices all over the place and do not know what things are really actually worth.
Thank you all so much for the help and advice . [CtJu9isdQ7

For longevity, I am guessing you want to avoid glass-filled, or dyed ruby (not diffusion)?

Pregcurious, that is a beautiful. So I have a game changer. My grandmother is giving me her diamonds, which are not huge, but I would love to incorporate them into the band some how. What is the best step. Should I just look for a loose ruby now? Where is the best place to look? And then once I have the gemstone go from there? I would also love to use the little diamonds on my promise ring that I am never going to use again, but the jeweller was against that idea since they are small and hard to work with. Should I find another jeweller. I am guessing he is going to say the same thing about my grandmothers diamonds as well. This is the promise ring.

Better picture. I want to use the smaller ones going down the band.

I would leave the ring as it is. The bulk of the cost of a halo setting is the labour to set each individual melee diamond. It might not be as much just for a few stones down the band as long as they are well matched and in good condition. How small are the melees?

Chrono, honestly I could not tell you the size of the melees.
