Ruby pair?

I'll check with Jason. Thanks Chrono.

I just received his reply. He guarantees (100%) they are natural and from Mogok. He got them from his regular supplier who bought them from the cutter. He gives the clarity of one VS, and the other VVS.

ETA: I wanted to make sure he wasn't offended by the question. And he replied "Prudence is a virtue."

I get even more suspicious when they are that clean. The synthetic flux spinel rough is so real that it even comes in the same form as a natural rough. There were links to this report done a while ago and I think you might be able to pull it up with the search words of synthetic flux red spinel.

I'll look for it. Which lab would you feel comfortable detecting this? They are in the US, so domestic lab would be easiest.

Even better news! You'll only be out $55 for AGL's brief.

I think it's really sad that not long ago, I was able to freely recommend red spinels as 100% untreated and synthetics were easy to spot. Now they are heated and the fakes look too realistic. :(sad

(wrong article)

There's a link to this article right on the top of the AGL homepage.

Has anyone on our boards wound up with any?

I don't think so but I've seen a few flux spinels advertised on eBay and clearly disclosed.

What a scary article. It sounds like these synthetic stones are more difficult to spot than heated and filled rubies, heated and diffused sapphires, and irradiated stones. I'm just wondering how prevalent they are?

I'm wondering too. I know that synthetics have been around for a long time but sounds like these are better than the old ones. And are they being done in other colors or just red?

Hey, I know you bought some spinels, but I just wanted to alert you that there are a pair of small ruby rounds on Brad's website that just went up. I don't want to put the link here in case someone snatches them before you get a look.

About the SSEF report, that is scary. At the end of the day, I think there's an effort to fake every stone, and the fakers are ahead of us.

I just went to look. Those are  !! I wish I could use something of that size. I can see in my mind having those as accents from which two creamy drop pearls hang. Slurp!!

They really are so lovely, but so tiny...and by now, sold, I'm sure!

Greg, those are the ones we were just talking about. Good eye. Aren't they gorgeous?

Oh, I skimmed and missed that, they are gorgeous and untreated. I'm sure they won't last long.

Yeah I would totally use those as accents for an e-ring.

While the spinels look lovely and I hope they work out for you, FWIW I think the Gemfix ones aren't as dark as they might seem at first glance on the hand - looking at the one on the right (or top) it matches the colour of their photo quite well while the other seems to be caught in the valley of the fingers. My thoughts are that dangling on your ears they will look more like the the one on the right simply because they will be more exposed to the light. And I love the photo - perhaps ask how true to colour it is if the spinels don't work out?

 Just went to look (after the fact). Ditch the spinels! Do this!

ETA: Gah! Missed the post where you said you'd bought them - congratulations and enjoy!

Since there weren't any takers on that pair from TGT I bought them. :Up_to_something: I liked Upgradable's idea of pearls for them. Or maybe a white diamond.

Uppy - just in case you ever decide to buy from AJS, be aware that the photos are glamorised to a certain extent. In photos gems tend to appear a little brighter and lighter. So if you buy from them keep that in mind! I've bought quite a lot from them and now know how to read their photos a bit better. Unfortunately, they used to do additional shots years ago but they haven't done for a few years.

Congrats on your new purchase. Looking forward to seeing them!

Did you get your stones?

They were to arrive today, but were "missorted" by the OKC hub. Stoopid Postal Service!

Soon though :appl: Soon!

So did you decide to get the earrings instead of a stone for a ring or are you still on the hunt for that as well?

Ring is in my profile pic. So these are intended for earrings. I just have to see them in person to know if they're the ones.

Gah! I've read that thread - and totally adore the ring!. What was it you said about getting older not being all it was cracked up to be?

Fingers crossed for the earring stones.

Bummer! At least you have something to look forward to tomorrow.
