I just got a ruby ring (well I will have it in my hands next week).
As I just mentioned in the update on my ring search I used to have a pair of ruby and diamond earrings from the 90's until I lost one.
I have decided to get ruby studs then get a diamond halo jacket so I can switch out the studs (when I get other CS) or just wear the studs.

I am trying to figure out 4 or 5 mm and also picking stones.

Gemfix has what looks like a nice pair of stones that is 3.8 MM but I am not sure if it would be too small (top left)

has a 4.2 pair that isn't bad or a darker pair at 5mm

I also emailed a few jewelers. So fair the one jeweler that has gotten back to me I am sure would get great stones but it is way out of what I could afford.

What are people's thoughts on the 3.8mm or 4.2mm or the 5mm?

Also are there other sites I am missing for either set studs or stones that can be set?

Once I find the studs I am going to get a pair of diamond jackets for them.

Sorry, I don't know much about rubies but have looked at the same one's you've posted. I like the one's from Gemfix the best since they seem to be a bright red. They would show an airline if you get the 5mm jackets from IDJ that are popular on this list at the moment. I just purchased the 5mm jackets with 3 pointers and wear them with 5.1 and 5.5mm studs. No airline with those. You might want to contact Gemfix and see what they have to say about the rubies. I just purchased sapphires and tsavorites from them and they were great to work with. Hopefully, someone more knowledgeable will post their opinions on the rubies you've listed.

Hi rubmd - I like the gemfix rubies, but I would go for 5mm. I have burma ruby studs and they are 5mm. I have other studs that are 4mm, and I use them for my second piercings, they are much smaller. It does not seem like they would be, but they are. I loves 'em.

Thanks for looking
my thought is to get jackets and certainly everyone around here raves about the IDJ ones. Can you give a range of what they cost? I havent been able to figure that out. And if there is a style that people have been getting ( they do look stunning I looked at the pictures).
My gut is to have stones set in martini setting for something simple that will work with jackets. But if there is a setting that works better with jackets I would love to here what your recommendation is.

Are there other places you suggest I check ? Including for having them source stones ?
Also if you had to pick between the smaller gem fix pair and the two pair below at 5 mm would you pick the smaller pair or go for one of the larger ones ?

There are two other pairs on gemfix that are 5 mm. I can't tell if either will work. But I will call them on Monday.

Well I got my ruby studs. I had looked at stones and was planning on going with 4mm studs (about .65 or so of a carat). I even ended up ordering a pair of nice stones in 4mm size. They ended up being a touch dark indoors and that size it showed. So I sent them back. I ended up getting this pair that was sold to me as heat only. They are about 1.13 Carats I think around 4.9 mm. They had been in yellow gold which I am not a fan of so they switched them to 3 prong martini in 14K white with la pousette backs (I loose earrings a lot). I love the color on them :-). I also ordered IDJ 3Pt jackets for 1CTW diamonds or for 5 mm stones. They will be here next week :-). Thank you for everyone's help. My next plan is to get other CS studs to go with the jackets and down the road diamonds. The other color stones I will likely order the stones and have them set.
This adds to my collection of rubies of which the ring I just got and these earrings are my crown jewels (pun intended) but I also have the pendant shown, another good quaity pendant with two kinds of diamonds in the halo (with a good color ruby), a few pay rings in rubies, a three stone bangle with a ruby and two round diamonds (like a three stone ring), another pair of ruby and diamond hoops, rubies in my Ering (2 baguettes), 3 lesser formerly pairs of earrings that only 1 remains of each which is why I got the security backs :-(
When I get the IDJ jackets next week I will take better pictures. But for now here is a few.
