My future brother-in-law used this site when purchasing his engagement ring, and recommended I come here for advice, so this is my first time posting here. My fiance only wants a saphire ring and has no interest in diamonds. I am looking through wildfish, and have contacted Ed a couple times. We have both looked through stones and have settled on this stone http://www.wildfishgems.com/inc/sdetail/5666. She wanted a blue green stone and this seems to be a good size. I am by NO means a gem expert so I was hoping for some second opinions on this particular gem. Would this make a good engagement ring, and is this a good deal on this stone? Any help I could recieve would be amazing, but I am trying to move quick on this as it is on clearance.

Just did not want this question to be left unanswered.

I never bought from Ed although many PS-ers have. Unfortunately, many of them post vendor's photos instead of their own and Ed is a master of photography, his gem pictures are worthy of a calendar, but I can not imagine how they would look like in real life. One advise - do not buy fast because it is on clearance, because you have to look at it for a long, long time, unless, of course, you upgrade. Although in Ed's case, it is not a problem since he has good return policy and his stones are easily returnable. From what I understand, he is flexible in dealing with customers.

Sapphires often photograph brighter than they are in real life. Blue green sapphires are pretty but finding a good one can take some time. As Crasru said, as long as you buy from a place with a good return policy you can see the gemstone in person to see if it is what you want. I think a phone call wouldn't hurt either so you can tell them exactly what you are looking for in a sapphire. Have fun shopping.

What is the budget for this piece? Sapphires with a greenish secondary are typically less expensive than their pure blue counterparts, all else being equal. Montana sapphires sometimes have a tinge of green in the blue as well.
