Saphire Engagement Ring Advice

My future brother-in-law used this site when purchasing his engagement ring, and recommended I come here for advice, so this is my first time posting here. My fiance only wants a saphire ring and has no interest in diamonds. I am looking through wildfish, and have contacted Ed a couple times. We have both looked through stones and have settled on this stone http://www.wildfishgems.com/inc/sdetail/5666. She wanted a blue green stone and this seems to be a good size. I am by NO means a gem expert so I was hoping for some second opinions on this particular gem. Would this make a good engagement ring, and is this a good deal on this stone? Any help I could recieve would be amazing, but I am trying to move quick on this as it is on clearance.

Are you fussed on cut? The stone has a medium sized window which might not close up in a setting.
Will you be bothered by the inclusion? Under certain lighting conditions, you may see it on one side of the stone but other than that, it probably won’t be noticeable.

In the extra pictures section, here is what I observed:
Picture 1 has been infused with light or flash photography so the stone appears “lit up”. You will rarely see this colour, if at all.
Picture 2 appears more natural, so expect to see this colour most of the time.
Picture 3 shows some of the body colour, which is on the darker side and has a gray modifier. This is a stone that should never be bezel set or may end up looking like a black hole.

I usually am fussy on cut, but my Fiance is not. She is most concerned with the color and the clarity of the stone. I saw the inclusions as well but doubt that it would be much noticable when the ring is set. I don't like a bezel setting anyway so that is not a problem. Thanks for your thoughts.

Thanks Ed!

My honest opinion is that you can find a nice blue-green sapphire for half that price or less. I'm not saying it's a bad deal...but I don't think it's a good one either. If you look up Australian sapphires, you'll find that most are blue-green colored. Especially parti-colored sapphires.

Here is one that I recently bought from Doug Menadue at Bespoke Gems and returned (I wanted a blue sapphire and this one had just a -little bit- too much green for me. The cutting was superb though. You could see little hearts if you looked directly into the stone.):

It's located on his site here (2nd one down): http://www.bespoke-gems.com/SacredGeometrics_Gemstones_Sapphire.php Doug also offers a 20% discount to people who subscribe to his newsletter.

You could also check out GemHunters: http://www.gemhunters.com.au/Cut_Natural_Australian_Sapphires I haven't bought from them personally, but when I messaged them about a few sapphires and requested more pics they replied pretty quickly and took extra photos right away.

Did you happen to take any personal pictures of that sapphire, Xiriah? I've been eyeballing its sister (the parti) for weeks now, and I've admired that blue one in the picture of all 3 colors together. Now that it's back for sale, it's a tough choice for me between the two stones. Extra pictures would be very helpful. Doug took some more pics for me of the parti, but I still don't feel confident of what the stone will look like in hand. I would just buy it and then send it back if I don't like it after all, but the shipping is non-refundable I believe, and that's not cheap in and of itself.

Unfortunately, I didn't take any photos of it. :(( It turns that nice blue color in non-direct sunlight though. There's not that much green noticeable (it's more of a green tint,) but it's not a true blue (which I was looking for.) It was a very pretty stone though. It was just too much for me to spend on something that wasn't exactly what I was looking for, or else I probably would've kept it.

The first photo of it in the set (on the website) is pretty accurate for how it looks in medium to low lighting. Kind of medium to dark (like at the 7 to 8 o'clock angle,) but not overly dark and it sends out lots of nice flashes. I admit that the cut was what I really loved about it.

Ok, thanks for the info. That helps some even without more pictures. Gah. Decisions, decisions.
