705882ED-AD7A-46C8-8973-68193464DD74.jpeg Me again, driving myself slowly insane as I try and work through a million and one options!
I have the two 9mm blue sapphires. Not a perfect pair but close enough.
What to do with them.
Option 1 - earrings.
Now, they are close enough in colour to wear as earrings BUT 9mm is pretty big on the ear lobe and my current hairstyle (short bob) sees me choosing my dangle earrings every time as my hair hides my ears most the time. And my daughter will never be able to wear them, she has delightful petite little earlobes and 9mm would swamp her.
Option 2 - a ring and a pendant.
Ok, so I’m bling girl and a sapphire all by itself will look sad in my books so I’d want a nice diamond halo. Love a halo BUT the $$$$ start getting big by the time you surround a 9mm sapphire with .10 diamonds. So to do both a ring and a pendant I’m not going to have much change out of $8,000 I think.
OR
Keep one and sell the other to fund a ring ?

Would you be open to a smaller halo? I got a 3 pointer halo for my giant zircon and it wasn't overly expensive.

Definitely drop earrings. There are sooo many options!

I’ve spotted these with Ivy and Rose7F531878-0159-4D21-B724-23CF6CB6F45C.jpeg
The current centre stones aren’t natural but are 9mm. I think they would look lovely as earrings or maybe I could remodel one to a ring and the other to a pendant.
I really like my bling!

Ooh these sapphires are so pretty @Bron357! I vote dangle earrings but make them as light as possible and not too long so they are easy to wear. But will still show through your lovely long locks. Or reserve them for days you wear your hair back or up. A simple sapphire drop dangling right below the lobe. I think that would be gorgeous on you.

Have you seen this thread? You might find some helpful ideas here.

Beautiful sapphire’s! I also would make dangling sapphire earrings with diamond halo.

@Bron357, how about something like this? With your lovely sapphire as the drop. Gorgeous.

Beauties!!!
I vote for elegant chique dangling earrings. Like these by Alistair Kelsey, designed for @picante27 :

Another drop/dangle earring fan. These would make beautiful earrings!

Another for dangle earrings just below lobes. Lovely color!

I like the idea of drops as previously suggested.

Surely ivy&rose have some affordable semi mounts that would work if you want a ring?

But if none of that floats your boat I’m sure it would be relatively easy to sell, it’s such a desirable size!

Hi! I am a bling girl too and like bold rings. I would get a blingy semi-mount and make it into a ring. A 9mm sapphire stone will not be blingy by itself, but with the right mounting it will look gorgeous. I would get a thicker shank to give the sapphire and ring more substance.

I don’t like simple dangle earrings as it will look like too plain for me and also look like costume jewelry. Plus, the sapphires may just disappear against your hair.

I think it will be beautiful as a blingy ring.

Good luck!

Thanks everyone.
I think I’m very fortunate to have a pair of lovely sapphires. They are the only gems I could make earrings out of so I will.
And yes, the dangle idea is fabulous (where was my brain, all I was thinking was studs) that will really help them display so the light can get to them.
Then I had a really good thought.
Perhaps making them into “dangles” with a chain so I can wear them with my many and varied stud earrings. Sort of converting any pair of my studs into something extra.
I like the idea of a chain so they actually move about, not too long, maybe an inch.
This is my rather poor attempt at showing what I mean.

LOVELY stones! I like the idea of dangle earrings.

Where these part of your estate sale haul?

Yes, they were. So many lovely gems and not enough $$$ to set them all unfortunately.
I keep going “ok, I’ll sell this one, maybe, maybe not, not!”
The big ruby 6.19 carats, but with a nasty chip to the girdle, I have to have recut and hopefully keep it above 5 carats which I will sell because I figure that sale will give me enough $$$ to set the others! And then I go, it’s so so beautiful and ruby is my birthstone and Ruby is my daughter middle name and.....
Terrible problem to have, not.

My two cents... the ruby is lovely and the chip is not that bad, I would keep it and put it in a ring. Rubies that size are hard to come by unless of course you regularly buy this size stone.

I have a 6.05 sapphire ring that I wear all the time so I have nicks on the girdle. I am not going to recut it as I love the way it is.

Ruby is my next stone purchase. May I ask, what are the dimensions of that one? 10x12? Other? Is it Burmese? Thai? Mozambique?

I would keep the stone. It’s very pretty. Just my two cents.

The chip is bad, but only really noticeable at certain angles. The other issue is the feather inclusion, it’s so close to the surface that I’m not sure if a recut is possible.
It’s 12mm x 10mm and under the microscope (im a gemologist in training) the inclusions would incline me to unheated and probably Burmese. I’d be getting certification if I was selling it.
I also have a 10 x 8 mm (2.97) but it’s a darker red.

Oh, yes I see the chip now and yes, you will have to recut that one. 12x10 for the current implies a decent cut. Assuming it got cut down to a 5ct and it was Burmese, if you don’t mind, what do you think that would sell for? If it’s too sensitive of a question, no worries, I was just wondering. I’m also new to the forum and I don’t want to start any inappropriate questions.

It’s a nice color (I like brighter reds and not pigeon-blood... had one of those and hated it), and I agree now after seeing it that it needs to be recut.

No worries, but I have no idea what’s it might be worth. The only similiar sized rubies I could find (on James Allen) ranged from tens of thousands to hundred of thousand - OMG.
Here’s the smaller dark red one, I think it’s got a purple undertone, it’s cleaner so I think it is more likely heated. 96F05841-C2B6-4E43-B0DC-21A0F14CFD19.jpeg

Defenitely some dangly drop earrings and wear them everyday!

@Bron357 Too bad about the ruby needing to be recut.

I do love all your posts about your great box of jewels. Keep sharing.

Oh that’s a fun idea! Do you want them long on a chain or closer to your ear lobe? I love the antique styles that have a smaller stone like a stud and then a larger stone below that moves.

And please call me first if you decide to sell some rubies! ;)2

Ahhh! Those remind me of these really gorgeous drop earrings I was loaned for a photoshoot:

I would totally suggest having smaller blue sapphires instead of diamonds and making it a totally blue drop earring! :kiss2:

Beatiful Chappy!
Is that your pet dumbo eared rat in your avatar? Rats make such affectionate pets! I miss ours.

They are perfect for earrings. If these were mine, I would set them in drop earrings with a diamond halo of 2-pt ACA diamonds. Refer to the pear drop in my avatar for proportion. The long, vertical axis of the pear measures 9mm, same as yours, and the halo melees are 2-pt. The diamond halo would make the sapphires look more luxurious, and the melee size is small enough not to overwhelm or distract. The combination should look elegant and luxurious. Yet, the simple look is appropriate for all occasions. Just make sure that the diamond melees are of great cut and sparkly, instead of dull.

Oh yes, I trained my rats to do tricks. They'd spin on command, give you a paw, rollover, jump on you, and of course come when called (video proof). Exactly like miniature dogs, haha. So clever and full of personality. I love rats but my current living situation doesn't allow for it, definitely miss them sometimes.
