This was my grandmother's ring. I don't have any specs, except that it's sapphire, diamond and dates from sometime between about 1910 - 1940. The blue is an amazing one - deep but not navy; you can see it's actually blue in all lights. Not sure if sapphires were heated back then.

I couldn't get many good pics - sorry about the bad hand shots! The close-ups are good but make the ring look square when it's really rectangular.

Let me know if anyone can accurately date this ring.

I love that setting!!!

Thanks! It's from England, I think probably more likely to be Edwardian anything else.

Oh, this is just so beautiful, what a lovely design and a special treasure from another time! I can't be totally sure, but those look like small old cut diamonds to me, just going by the pic. Thanks for sharing this, I really love seeing these older pieces!

It was my grandmother's ring that my grandfather gave her to celebrate their 40th anniversary. Her engagement ring was very similar but the centre stone was emerald and there were more diamonds. My sister is older so she got the emerald - first grandchild, first ring. I, of course, was the second grandchild so I got the second ring, this sapphire. That worked out brilliantly because I much preferred the sapphire.

Do you really think they might be old-cut diamonds? I don't know anything about old cuts, but that's a fascinating piece of information about my ring. Thanks!

I would have posted it before but my mother took it on a four-month world cruise. So my ring has been around the world without me! Hope it had a good time.

Oh wow... What a beautiful dragon!!!

Hi, what's a dragon in this context?

Oh goodness! Sorry! My phone autocorrected! I meant to write design! Beautiful design!

Yes, v. funny! I wondered if you were Chinese and that to have a family piece was good luck and that such an item is called a dragon, or something!

Hahaha nope not Chinese! But that would have been cool!

Very pretty, looks deco to me.

REally pretty design (or dragon)!!!!! Are the diamonds scrubbed squeaky clean? It may just be the photo, but I want to give it a little bath.

Oh, how beautiful!!

Thanks everyone!

Motown - I washed it with tepid water and a tiny bit of hand soap before the photo, and in real life it looks much more of a true blue and white, and quite sparkly. The photo looks creamy. The diamonds are not modern round brilliant, and there is some tarnish on the setting aound the diamonds.
