Upon the recommendation of many posters, I am opening a new sapphire search thread with specifics, in the hope that I could get as many suggestions for trustworthy vendors as possible - as I only know a few sites to look at.

Briefly, I am looking for a nice sapphire in the 2.5-3.5 carat range.
A bit closer to 2 would be OK if it faces up large enough, 8-9 mm longest dimension.

Preferred shape: pear, oval, cushion (but not square), maybe emerald.
No round, heart or square.

Color: medium to dark blue (Kashmir, Ceylon, Cornflower), maintains blue in low light, does not turn gray-dark indigo in low light. If it must color-shit, it will hopefully go towards dark cobalt/navy, but not gray.

Originally, I thought I would like a "teal" sapphire - but I changed my mind.

Cut - the sparklier the better. Transparent, translucent- not silky/flat/opaque.

Antique cushion, brilliant, etc - but not princess/radiant (if that is even done in sapphires).

Clarity - inclusions are fine as long as they are not offensive/distracting or the first thing the eye goes to.

Heated - yes.

Thank you so much in advance for any suggestions you may have come across.

OMG I love the first one!

I am not really into blue (it's probably the one colour that doesn't really tickle me! Blue green or teal is another matter!) so I wouldn't spend that much on a blue stone but I'd love that cut if I wanted a blue!

To me that looks too blue to be an aqua or zircon. The zircons I've seen (and the one I own) always seem to veer towards aqua/turquoise to me.

Is this close enough?

Dimensions are 0.3 mm short, but colour more than makes up for it.

Thank you! I think Jeff White's is a nicer color than Jeff davies' emerald cut.

These are possible options but they are pushing the budget and. Also, based on what I have noticed, this cut seems to result in a lot of bulk at the bottom while facing rather small for the carat weight.

I think my ideal shape would be a pear. Not only do I love the elongating effect butI have seen a few and I noticed that you get a lot of length and wide (face up) relative to carat weight.

Am I correct?

Any sapphire vendors in NY that are recommended. I was thinking about upgrading my sapphire, but not sure.

I am so very sorry for my typo-above - I obviously meant color shiFt but I did not catch the mistake until it was no longer possible to edit. :-)
Many apologies for the involuntary vulgarity. :o

HI:

I had an excellent experience buying from Roger Dery,

cheers--Sharon

I don't know if Jeff would get upset for me mentioning this, but he just sent an email today with a pretty significant sale on all pre-cut gems on his site! He made a point to say that the offer is only for his Gem Scoop subscribers though. So if you think this might be a candidate and you aren't a subscriber, you might try signing up and seeing if he would honor it. You might be able to get it for a sweet price!

Yes, nice spot! I am actually amazed at how well priced it is after the discount.

Yes, I am a subscriber and already got the invitation in the mail. I will check into it!

Here is a 2.94 ct pear brilliant. This would have very good finger coverage. https://gemfix.com/gems/sapphire-blue-11-1203
Not a sapphire but a spinel. https://www.etsy.com/listing/547007...ge-cobalt-blue-spinel?ref=shop_home_active_18

Yes! Love this large pear and its size!

There's something about pears to me...the gift that keeps on giving!
They elongate hands for those of us with no so perfect fingers...and they show up large at relatively lower carat weights.
Options are adding up and I may have to start moving closer to taking a look at some of these in reality. The anxiety-producing stage.

But now my mind kind of got stuck on that pre-owned Etsy ring. What in the world...?
That's too good to be true again, correct?

Because a 5 ct sapphire, unheated, that nice at around 4000$...be it pre-owned...I don't know.
There's something seriously wrong here...

I have no idea if its to good to be true or not, but i will say when i read his description, getting past all the caps, i found the link he had in the description for the gia report is for a different ring.

https://www.gia.edu/report-check?reportno=2185640639

So theres that, it could be a mistake though and he has the correct number there. I would want him to provide that before i decided either way.

I'm not too sure about the cut on that Etsy ring, looks like there's a window? Just something kind of chaotic and off about how it's faceted.

Mm...yeah; I kind of noticed that too.

At 5 cts it looks like an extremely good price - so I am sure there is a catch; because, so far, I am yet to encounter that free lunch in my life. I hear some do - so it must not be complete legend. :mrgreen2:

I'm also fixated on that ring (on your behalf of course) and checked all the other blue sapphire GIA reports and they all matched the pictures. So I'm leaning towards a mistake on the sellers end. Looking at all of the photos, there aren't any straight on profiles making me think that there a small problem there. Maybe the pavilion is off center. The video also supports this theory as you can see the culet isn't centered.

I think it's worth pursuing. Ask for all the different lighting pics and videos and also a straight on profile. It's a good price but as you said, there isn't any free lunch.

There is a video on the website. Not sure if the saturation on the video was tweaked but the color of the fingers are a bit strange and it looks like it's in a strong light. LED light may bring in the color in the blue sapphires and direct sunlight can lighten a sapphire (so a sapphire that rocks in direct sunlight in many cases are darker in other lights). The center is also less saturated but overall I think the stone is sparkly.

I think this looks more like a blue topaz, than a sapphire.

Really?
Hmm...
I think I already sent an inquiry but I am going to check again.
