Hi everyone!

I''m looking for some ideas/advice. I''m considering this sapphire (hopefully the pic is attached), a yellow trillion sapphire, 1.78ct 6.6 x 7.1 x 5.5. I''m not usually drawn to this shape, but this particular piece caught my eye.

I was originally looking for a sapphire to put in a three stone setting (center being round or possibly pear), but I''ve never seen one with a trillion center stone. Would such a ring be hard find or craft? The sky is the limit with custom designs, however, this just a fun right-hand ring, so I''d like to keep the setting cost relatively low. (Setting price not including side stones, which I''ll probably buy separately.)

If anyone has any ideas, please shoot them my way!

Nice looking Sapphire !

I have been talking with Wink about a sapphire ring, but mind is round. He has been very helpful. He wrote the section here on PS about colored stones.

I would shoot him an email - with the picture. I am sure he will have some ideas.

Hi Bar01

Funny you mention that, Wink was actually the person I planned to contact first! (I ordered an interlap from him once--just had to see one for myself!--they are such nice people to work with.)

In the meantime, I figured I'd pick a few gem-loving brains around here first, get some brainstorming ideas before contacting him directly.

Thanks

Awesome sapphire I love the color.
To me that shape looks kind of dorky in a ring.
I think it would look much better as a pendent.

That said you could have it done into a ring fairly cheaply start with a 14k band then have the top cut and a basket setting added for the stone.
Solder together and your set.

14k yg
Depending on ring size the total should be under $175 maybe even $150 or so.
under $100 for the ring under $20 for the basket and $35-$60 to put it together.
Go with a thin ring as the base or 10k and the price drops further.

There was no yellow gold look-alike but matching the color of the sapphire with warm 18k sounds nice to me.

The same seller could likely provide a pair of say... blue or green trills for sides if you wnat to go that way

Thanks for reminding me of their sale!

I had the same photo in mind as Val.

It's a nice sapphire keep us posted about the progress of the setting.

As a designer that wears a trillion diamond in my wedding ring, and 8 of my awards are with trillion shaped gems, I can tell you not to do the 3 stone ring thing with trillion center. Use that beautiful yellow, but off set it with stones on only one side of it. Many colors will go with it as well as diamonds. Who ever said a warmer tone gold or even peach gold is a good idea. White gold will even look good with either a diamond accent or an equally bright purple sapphire princess cut smaller accent. Don't do the 10k. Some companies have some trillion settings like Quality Gold if you don't want to do custom. Settings will run from 150-350 or custom from 250-800. For the right hand select the right ring.

Hi Scott,

Thank you for your suggestions!

I've actually started working with tradeshop.com to craft the setting and they've been excellent so far! I'll post an update when the project gets into full swing.

Thanks everyone!

hi bto, i know that trilliants are sometimes difficult
to see in a ring, but here's a look that might work for you.
great looking stone by the way.

BTO, what type of setting are you going with?

Hi innerkitten,

I haven't pinned down the exact setting yet. I had been corresponding via email with tradeshop, but my last email went unanswered. So I called, they took my number, and I'm still waiting for a return call...It may be that they are just busy, I'm not sure...

Anyway, I put an email in to Wink. Hopefully he'll be able to help me.
