secondhand smoke and dogs?

the other day I was walking and saw some homeless people smoking and holding the cigarette right near their dog's face!!! I just felt so bad for the dog-I hate it when I smell cigarette smoke, its just

Poor doggy. Recently, friends of ours were placing applications to adopt a dog and many of the apps asked if they smoke. I don't know if they would deny you for that reason but it certainly can't be good for the dog. Living on the streets certainly isn't ideal either.

it's amazing how many homeless people here have dogs.

I did a quick pubmed search on secondhand smoke and dogs, there aren't too many papers on this, but I can't imagine that smoke is good for them
