I am taking my grade-school best friend to London (her first trip) to visit the Cheapside Hoard and the Black Prince's "ruby" at the Tower of London. She loves colored stones too. What else should we see? I found Hatton Gardens a little disappointing, except for Berganza, at least from a colored-stone viewpoint. Plan to visit Gray's antiques market. Are there any lesser-known museums that might be intriguing? Shops?

Concur with V&A's jewellery section.

Burlington Arcade in Piccadilly next to the Royal Academy is worth a visit, as is Old Bond Street. That's where I would normally go to ogle at jewellery when I have time to spare when in London.

Enjoy your trip!

DK :))

Yes to both Burlington Arcarde & Bond st.! Great places to peek at jewels. The British Museum has jewelry through the ages, if antique stuff interests her.

Please report on the Cheapside Hoard!! I would love to see that. Enjoy!

The British Museum has a large jewelry section. It's worth seeing.

And the Natural History Museum has the Aurora pyramid of fancy coloured diamonds!

I'm still annoyed that I didn't get to see it last time I was in London.

Enjoy!
