Yes.
When I find a matching diamond pair I will just have to order the semi mount and I'm all set! :)

A semi mount will usually come with side stones but finding ready set chevron ones may be a challenge. In fact finding any loose chevrons might also be a challenge.

Since you know what you want in the way of sidestones and you have the details of the pear (mm size on the GIA report) it might be worth selecting a few jewellers and asking how much it would be to source the diamonds and make the ring. They would call in diamond pairs for you to approve and when you were happy, could then make the ring.

I did find 3-4 different matching Chevron pairs, only problem is that they are too big.
But I did find a video on YouTube of a semi mount and I will deffinately go with Step cut Trapezoids!

Sounds good. You're well on the way then - congratulations! :))

Yes, thank you :) I hope that I will find a preset mounting with trapezoids as it is the easiest.

hmh. should I choose Platinum or 18K white gold for this sapphire? will Platinum be too much or will it match the quality of the sapphire?

I don't know the size of your stone, but here is a photo of my tsavorite three stone with pear shaped diamond side stones, so it gives you an idea of what a colored stone looks like in the center, as opposed to a diamond.

I figured out how to save the the pictures now, yippey!
Here's the gemstone I has been offered and I think most of you understand why I want this gemstone so badly.

colorluvr could you please specify the measurements of your Tsavorite and your diamonds please just so I get some picture in my mind? :)

I see that you have decided not to go with pear sides stones, but per your request, my tsavorite is 2.61ct (approx 10 x 7mm) and the side diamonds are approx. .35ct ea. I don't have the exact measurement of the diamonds because I bought the setting with them already mounted, so I only got the ct. weight.

Btw, that is a gorgeous sapphire - congratulations! I'm sure it will look even more beautiful once it is set. I can't wait to see the finished ring.

Thank you very much for letting me know :)

I'm not 100 percent sure yet which side stones to choose but I think I will go with Step Cut Trapezoids.
I think the Pear side stones are very very beautiful too and easiest to find. But I feel that Step Cut Trapezoids will go well with the sapphire as it isn't "diamond" cut. The sapphire is mixed step cut I suppose so I think step cut side diamonds would look nicest as well.

Step cut pear side diamonds would be exraordinary but I dont know if it is even possible to get hands on any step cut pear diamonds? I have never seen that.

I am not sure what you mean by that. The look and heft of platinum and white gold are very different.

Will Platinum look as scratched as white gold do after some wearing? I know that white gold should be plated with rhodium once a year. But will platinum be that easy "scratched" as well? They dont sell Platinum rings in my country so I have never seen a Platinum ring in real. But the price difference for the mounting is only $850. So what to choose?

Do you own any white gold jewellery at the moment? To say definitively that it needs to be replated once a year isn't exactly true. It all depends on your body chemistry. For some people, it doesn't need replating for years but for others, it can yellow in a matter of weeks. Platinum is a softer metal so it shows scratches sooner than gold, but when repolished, it doesn't lose any material (platinum shifts around but gold is buffed off). That said, if PT is uncommon in your country, I would stick with WG in case you need to do any work to the setting (resizing, resetting, and what-not).

You don't have to rhodium plate white gold. It just won't look as stark white. It'll be warmer. Which frankly I like better ;)

okay, thanks for your response. I do got a lot of white gold jewelry. I got a ring that I wear very rarely (worn maybe 10 days together), it is made of 14K but it looks like it has been going through a war or something. I dont use my jewelry even when cleaning the house but still they get that very "dull" look and I can wear a ring for 2 days and it looks like I have had it for 5 years. I dont use any type of lotion on my hands either so I dont know why my jewelry fade that fast?

Probably individual :) I like my white gold very bright and "sparkly" and do really dislike when it gets "warm" in color as it reminds me of Sterling Silver.

FWIW I remember a goldsmith with whom I did a silversmithing course with years ago saying "silver is white, everything else is silver" to which I would add that platinum is grey. Are you really rough on your rings or do you think it's a reaction between the WG and your skin?

What country are you in JewelryLover? We've been bleating on about things as they are (and available ) in the US.

No, I'm not rough on any jewelry I got. I dont know if it's possible that skin types do affect jewelry quality?

I'm in Sweitz (Switzerland). But I will purchase a mounting from the U.S as jewelry prices here are unaffordable.

I can't really speak to WG as I only have one ring which I don't wear a lot and have not noticed any discoloration, most of my rings/jewellery is YG. However I would defer to Chrono's comment that you quoted a couple of posts ago (and others who wear a lot of WG might chip in with their experience).

ETA: Thanks for clarifying your country - having visited many years ago I remember Switzerland is beautiful but can appreciate that jewellery might be expensive there.

Yes, I think jewelry in Europe in general are extremely expensive if purchasing it from any local jewelry store as they charge as much as possible. European jewelry stores here do also use a lot of EGL certified diamonds but I personally prefer GIA. :)

I think I might try to get my hands on a graduate gift for my daughter as well as she is graduating in December and it is also Christmas. I personally hate pink but she loves it, lol.

I'm not very "hip" so I dont know if this is too much for a girl at 22 years old or not, any thougths?

I vacationed in Switzerland for a week in my teens and the country has the most amazing vista. I also remember that everything was expensive, the shops closed very early and all the signs were in 3 languages. It's great to have posters from countries other than USA.

Back on topic. ::) I can wear WG for ages without any reaction and the rhodium plating lasts a long time. I do know of other posters who've experienced nickel allergies and / or wear down the plating very quickly. It should not affect the metal quality though, only the plating. Do you know the alloys used in your WG? There are many different alloys and perhaps one type might be hardier than another. Just a guess on my part.

Yes, that is correct. if I dont remember wrong Sweitz and Scandinavia are the most expensive countries in Europe when it comes to everything.

Same with me as well, yellow gold last a lot longer for me to, doesn't look that kind of dull but I will not mix the blue sapphire with yellow gold. and I prefer white gold most (or all type of white/gray/silver).

I am not quite sure what the alloy they use are. all white gold jewelry I got I have purchased at LOGR (Lord of Gem Rings). They might also use different types of alloy depending upon the piece of jewelry, I got no clue :)

Is the pink sapphire eye clean? It's also very shallow and has a good sized window. Whilst the setting is blingy, I fear it is a bit too matured for a 22 year old. A simple halo will do just fine.

I dont know if it is eye-clean as it is for sale on ebay, Norway is far from here so I cant go and see it. But I have purchased gemstones from them before as they are one of the few located in Europe (because of shipping time) and that also has a decent price. I have been very happy with the other gemstone I bought. in their listing they grade it as "VS2" and AGL grade it "MI2" so I think it is eye-clean from what I can see in the report.

Okay .... I did also think about that I just liked the mounting myself but I am not the one to wear it, so yes, maybe a regular halo is the best option.

I would consider this stone more pink sapphire than ruby, so I'm concerned it will not be eye clean, especially when there are inclusions smack dab across the windowed table. The one going across one lower side is fairly large as well. Best to ask the vendor if it is eye clean from 6 inches away and 12 inches away from the eye. The MI2 clarity rating from AGL states that the sapphire is moderately included, which is a far cry from the vendor's VS2 description. The window bothers me a lot too because you'll see through the stone, instead of seeing colour reflected back to the eye. The memo is too small for me to make out the colour grading.

Their response:

"Hello,

I will try my best to answer all of your questions.
The Sapphire has a Very Good Clarity in reality and as stated in the listing we grade it to be of VS2 Clarity.

AGL has graded the Clarity of this Gemstone to be MI 2 - HI 1.
Whatsoever, the Sapphire are 100% clean to the eyes and there is no visible inclusions.
There is two inclusion (under 10x Loupe) located between the Culet and the Pavillion.
These inclusions are not visible to the naked eye as stated earlier.

Regarding your question of cut:
This Sapphire has a Ratio (Depth / Width) of 61.98% something that means Good Cut.
Cheap Cuts will be below an Ratio of 60%, while all high-quality Gemstones should rest between 60-80%.
High-quality Sapphires like this one also have Good Symmetry when viewed in profile - reflecting the light evenly.

The easiest way to explain this:
If you put for example your finger at the Culet (Table turning towards your face) and you cant see your finger affecting its color or transparency it will probably be of a Ratio higher than 60%.

We do also offer 100% 14 Days Money Back Guarantee.
If you choose to purchase this Gemstone and your for some reason are unhappy you can return it within 14 Days upon signed delivery.

Have a nice day!

Sincerely,"
