You say ''bunch of nuts'' like it''s a bad thing.

Seriously, there are worse things we could be addicted to and spending money on. At least we have something to show for it. And diamonds don''t seem to be going down in value anytime soon(ever).

It was widget that said in Kenny''s thread that she was addicited to diamonds and at least her liver is in good shape.

yeah....like 100 pairs of shoes.

Speaking for myself and probably many of us, with things we love like diamonds, much of the fun comes from the learning, researching and hunting, it is part of the whole experience to truly find that 'Ideal Rock." Maybe most folk just want to choose a ring from a tray, plunk down the cash and that's good enough, which is fine but I wouldn't enjoy that way half as much.

Yup, the hunt for my asscher was a blast. The whole design process was a lot of fun too. And sharing that process with everyone here was great. I got lots of great ideas from people here. Thank god for PS!!!

Thanks Blod, Happy New Year to you as well!! and to all PS''ers!

Lorelei, you are so right. My diamond means more to me because I researched, educated myself, hunted, waited, hunted again and came up with a fab stone - thanks to the help of fellow PS''ers who gave wonderful advice. I know I got a better quality stone than I could ever have imagined and it brings me joy every single day. We really have a fab team of people on PS.

Did you guys notice that the carat weight for their 2 ct diamonds can vary between 1.91 - 2.10 ??????

I picked up a brouchure at Walmart on their Keepsake Diamond Collection. Under clarity it says, And I quote,"ALL KEEPSAKE DIAMONDS HAVE THE REMARKABLE CLARITY OF I2." Remarkable?

If you look at your diamond like an investment and truly enjoy and appretiate jewelry then no....I think we are not nuts. I agree that that 5k could be soooo much better spent. I mean for 5k you could get a $300 white gold setting and an awesome stone! But then you have people like my mom and step dad....they both do work that is terrible for jewelry to be around....they both really don''t care about jewelry at all but wanted a tiny bit of sparkle in thier wedding jewelry so they got these:

They don''t have my moms style anymore but hers was close to this:

http://www.walmart.com/catalog/product.do?product_id=1763306

And I have to admit.....they sparkle really nicely and I louped them and they weren''t awful. I was sold worse from a mall store. They love them......but then again it fufills thier simple needs. They aren''t big jewelry people and they would see spending a lot on diamonds as a waste. So I guess whatever makes you happy!! However i''m sure tons of wayward people see the word ''certified'' and think they are getting the deal of a lifetime!

My shock was that Walmart is selling a 2 carat diamond for $5500. That''s a steal! I just couldn''t believe it!
The rings with the tiny diamonds probably aren''t that bad because small diamonds don''t show inclusions or color that much.

Nevermind the "remarkable I2 clarity", what about size and spread. Sure, you are getting a 2 carat diamond, but what does that really look like spread-wise? 1.25-1.5??? You know all that wieght is in the bottom of the sucker.

Exactly! Before I reset my engagement ring (.71) carat some people would ask me if it''s a carat. I was really surprised that the average person didn''t know what a carat looked like. Anyway, like I said before this is crazy!
