The diamond arrived on Wednesday...I haven''t seen it but he''s thrilled with it. So he went at lunch today to get the setting. The setting was already more than he''d budgeted, but he loved it. Well, beware, because Scott Kay did a price increase across the board. The same setting is almost $500 more than it was last week. It''s now reached a ridiculous price, and I told him NOT to do it. It''s getting out of hand, as far as price goes for the setting. He''s so upset...

I think we''ll go look around for more settings this weekend...he''s heartbroken though, and trying to figure out a way to get it. I don''t think it''s necessary at all, and I told him I didn''t want him to get it. Now it''s just price gouging, and I don''t want to buy into it.

Grrr....rant off.

awww - That sucks Angela!!
Hopefully you guys will be able to find something you like just as much or more!!

Angela,

Which setting in particular do you like? Have you thought about having it recreated through WF (or a place in your area)? That''s how we did it, and we saved hundreds.

Angela, so sorry to hear about that. Had they already promised you a price or just increased it right before you were ready to buy? If they raised it after giving you a better price, I would be very angry. Hopefully that didn''t happen. But regardless, i''m sorry.

I am sure you can find something that you like, in the price range that you like. Maybe you can get something very similar from someone else at the original price.

Ack, that sucks.

I hope you can find one you love or have one made for your budget!! Congrats on getting the stone, though!

Good luck!

Oh no!! Why the price increase all of a sudden, I wonder??? Have you considered trying to have it recreated as a custom setting? Which setting was it?

I think you should definitely check into having it recreated. We went the custom route. At first I didn''t even want to check into that because I was sure it was going to be a ridiculous amount to have it done. But it was actually VERY reasonable (in my opinion). It ended up being half to less than half of every other setting I looked at and liked.

Thanks for all of your replies! Wow, I feel loved.

Here''s the setting...http://www.solomonbrothers.com/Search/JewelrySearchDetails.asp?sSKU=78646

It''s very simple, but there was something about it we fell in love with. Maybe the "brushed" look on the band plus the way it accented the diamond.

*sigh*
We''ll have to look at the custom ones (thanks for the advice!). With tax, this one is running about $2140. I just think that''s too much when you''ve already put out so much for the diamond. It wouldn''t feel like so much, but I really just feel I''m paying for a name as opposed to something being THAT superior. It''s very simple and elegant, but I''ve seen comparable ones for $600-$1500. Not QUITE as nice, but still gorgeous.

Grrrrr again!!!

I just don''t like it when people try to take advantage, and that''s what I feel this is. No, they raised the price just before we were ready to buy, and a little price increase would be fine. But $350 in 4 days...that''s ridiculous.

Angela, I''m sorry for the set back with your ring! The setting I picked went up about 250 bucks a few weeks before we ordered it too and it was starting to feel like the deck was stacked against me and this engagement.

I think its worth getting quotes for a custom/semi custom job for this setting. Its a very popular style so theres probably one thats close enough that it can be altered to look closer to the Scott Kay version. Can''t hurt to ask!

That''s an insane price for that setting. You are totally right to tell him not to do it. And any setting you find anyhere can have that brushed texture, so don''t discount styles for that. Basically the jeweler sticks a little brass or steel wire circular brush onto his hand piece... whirrr... and voila!

This was posted by Karen Leah in the under 1ct thread and looks very similar to the pics of the Scott Kay. Perhaps you could do a search and try to find out where she got it if she has her own thread.

ETA: ok so I went and found the thread of her ring hehehehe.

Thank you so, so much! i''m just now checking back in after the weekend, and WOW!!! You guys are great.

That Pearlman''s Jewelry link really perked up the BF...he''s on pins and needles trying to figure out when he can call them. I still think it''s fairly pricey, but he''s SOOO set on it. Plus, since they''re in MI, we wouldn''t have to pay the sales tax...even better!
The one on Whiteflash looks good, but it''s for a round diamond, and ours is an Asscher. I''m sure they have one for the square stones, but I can''t look too in depth because I''m at work (and since no one here really knows we''re together, let alone looking at engagement, it would look a little odd me perusing engagement rings for hours and hours!

Also, interesting to note...the price on the original link I sent you came back down. Went up $300, and then went back down. That''s made him even more angry...he was about to just go ahead and do it, and for them to price gouge for a few days, that''s crappy.

Thanks again, so much! for your help...that''s awesome.
