Setting a princess cut diamond into gold 18k or platinum setting?

I''m trying to get my .5 CT diamond cut stone out of my original yellow gold setting into a new setting I just purchased which is 18k white gold. One place I talked to said that its a lot more risky to place a princess cut into a gold setting. Is this true? The platinum setting is almost double the cost of the white gold one. I''m just trying to figure out what to do at this point or if anyone will be able to set the stone in there securely. I''m located in Raleigh, NC if anyone knows anyone that may be able to help - I appreciate the help or advice.

That isn''t true. People get princess cut stones into gold settings all the time. Sounds like they just want you to spend more on a platinum setting. Or the benchman isn''t very skilled at setting stones.

Thritto. I have seen many Princess set in gold and worn without trouble.
