Hi everyone!

I have just received a beautiful yellow sapphire from Jeff White, and I am in love  ! She is bigger than I anticipated for my engagement stone, so I would love some setting help!

I originally wanted a very fine halo around the stone (I know, I know, but I think the white melee would make the yellow really pop), otherwise maybe a thin bezel of some description? Maybe a 3-stone? All I know for sure is that I want the setting to be platinum.

Any ideas would be greatly appreciated, I have attached a couple of photos below! Sorry for the awful iPhone photo, but Jeff's photo is a true representation of the colour! :D

Beautiful sapphire, beautiful nail lacquer, and beautiful hands!

That looks really pretty! Can we get bigger pictures and a profile shot? I would stick with prong settings if you like the color as is, and I agree a halo with white diamonds would make it really pop!

I think a tiny halo would be gorgeous and as you said make the yellow sing. The sapphire is stunning.

Someday sooner than later I hope to find a yellow sapphire close to as lovely as yours and set it in a beveled bezel with milgrain in 18 or 22 kt yellow gold. But if I were using platinum I would definitely halo the sapphire to keep the cool platinum tones a touch separate from the warm yellow. Of course there are many setting experts here who can offer better insight or ideas!

That's a gorgeous stone!! How lucky that you got to work with Jeff and got something so beautiful. As for a setting, I think a halo would be perfect.

Here are some of my favorites:

If that's the style that you have in mind, you should definitely consider contacting Victor Canera, Steven Kirsch, Leon Mege, or ERD. They're all outstanding and would make a beautiful delicate setting to go with your stone.

I can't wait to see more pictures of the stone and the completed ring!

Thanks for your replies everyone, I really appreciate it!

I really am thrilled with my sapphire, Jeff had been on the hunt for me for a while and my ball of sunshine has definitely been worth the wait!

I always thought a delicate halo would be perfect for my stone, and you guys have cemented my thoughts. It's going to be one honker of a ring :Up_to_something:

I have been lucky enough to work with Victor Canera in the past, so off I go to get a quote from him!

Knockout sapphire! I think it will be just stunning with a halo. One of my favorite combinations is yellow diamond or sapphire with white diamonds. Already impatient for finished photos! :appl:

What is your ring size? 9.5 mm is fairly large and you look to have really skinny fingers. A halo is probably going to take up all your finger real estate. Have you put the stone next to something white to see the effect? Whatever the case, you cannot go wrong with diamond accents.

minousbijoux - thanks for the compliments, the nail lacquer is CND Shellac in 'wildfire'! Perfect red :)

thbmok - I'll take some profile shots this weekend with my good camera, my iPhone just isn't cutting it for good gem shots...

Chrono - My ring size is a 4.75, so a 1.5mm halo will definitely give me some serious finger coverage! My engagement has been almost 10 years coming so time for some bling! :naughty:

I'll be honest, I didn't even read this thread (at first) because a Yellow sapphire is not anything that appeals to me. I don't like yellow unless it is some variation of greenish yellow, or neon yellow (think Chrysoberyl or Malawi Tourmaline). But Im bored so I clicked...

WHOA! Ok, you should know that your stone just changed my entire view on what a yellow Sapphire is capable of looking like, and yellow stones in general! Thats the best compliment I can give you :-) Very nice!

I happen to have a couple of very nice, precison-cut yellow Zircons in that color that have been sitting in the jar being ignored. I think its time I pay them some attention...yellow isn't that bad after all!! very nice!!!

That's a great looking sapphire. I am sure it will pop no matter what setting you put it in. Personally I like green gold bezel with yellow sapphire. But since you are set on platinum, I think a halo would be a great way to go. I'd use platinum for everything except the prongs/bezel for the center stone. I think prongs (or bezel) in yellow or green gold will blend in very well with your gorgeous sapphire. Platinum prongs (or bezel) might stand out too much.

Chris, in response to your thread all I can say is that I swear Jeff White could make a lump of coal look amazing...

Your sapphire is absolutely stunning! It is going to make for a beautiful ring! This is the setting I just went with from Leon Mege. From what you said, this might be a good option for you!

Wowee on the LM setting. Any idea how big that diamond is?

The pictures are showing it with a 2.51ct -- I am getting mine set with a 2.03ct

You might want to get an 18K yellow gold basket and prongs, or a bezel, to emphasize the yellow color, and you can still use white metal around the stone and on the shank.

Wow, this is gorgeous. It is the object of my envy as a felllow yellow sapphire seeker.

Do you mind if I ask whether it is heated? I am collecting images of ideal stones for my own search (with yours most definitely included!) , but I like to know what is possible for both heated and unheated stones.

Gosh, that is incredibly beautiful! Really an outstanding yellow sapphire! Jeff White does beautiful work, that is for sure. I am sooo glad you'll be using Victor for the setting! :appl:

Wow! What a beautifully cut sapphire!! If you go for the same setting that GoCubsGo is having done - that would be AMAZING! I like TL's idea of YG around the sapphire, but WG/Plat around the diamonds - if you are going that route. That will be a knock out ring!!

HI:

GORGEOUS stone!

Holy. Moly.

Your hands are gorgeous!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! You could rock burlap but I doubt you want to!

I set my yellow sapphire with demantoid garnet. I am happy, but it is a RHR.

For your ER I suggest white diamonds--either halo or 3 stone.

ETA: if you want to see how a yellow center stone would look with halo's and as a three stone or other iterations (colors etc...) look at Diamond by Lauren's site. They have dozens of examples.....

cheers--Sharon

HI:

Oh, btw, the "Collection of Halo's" on the SMTR forum (25 pages) might be worth a look!

cheers--Sharon

Chrisa222 - Thanks for the compliments, I know a yellow sapphire is quite common, but I was hoping to bag myself one that was a cut above the rest, and Jeff White definitely delivers!

corundum_conundrum - The stone is unheated and not treated in any way! There are a couple of natural inclusions if you look very carefully, but the brilliance of the cut masks these very well.

canuk-gal - I appreciate your enthusiasm for my hands  Thanks for reminding me of the Diamonds by Lauren site, great ideas there!

So I am thinking the Victor Canera Emilya halo with outward curved stems is the winner for the setting (with the stone set as low as possible), incorporating some yellow gold to enhance the colour of the stone:

Thanks everyone for your input and ideas :D

I cannot wait to see the finished ring!!! I'm sure it'll be a knock out!

what a beautiful sapphire. i can't wait to see it set its lush. :appl:

How did I miss this thread??? Fantastic stone - WOW! I'm impressed and jealous! I can't wait to see it once it is set!
