I’m the third PS owner of this 1.20 M color faint brown emerald cut. It is a really pretty stone and ranges in color from ivory to peach, sometimes a light yellow.

Ideally I just want a setting with no other stones but not sure whether to stick with white gold (as currently set) rose, or yellow gold. I only have one 18k yellow ring, but I tried it next to some of my rings to try to get a sense of what color compliments it best:

So there is one question. Then I don’t know which way to go with a setting. Either simple or with a little more presence. I don’t want a halo but side stones would be okay. I found these browsing Stuller, I didn’t save an image of the etched one in white but that’s also an option. I’d like to stick with Stuller since a local jeweler can get Stuller settings and I wouldn’t have to mail it out.

This is just the thinking and planning phase, the current setting is fine, but for the long term I’d like to find something more substantial. Any thoughts are appreciated!

It’s a beautiful stone. IMO The metal choice depends on what color You want displayed the most…if you want to highlight the peach and light brown mostly all the time go with yellow or rose gold. If you want the stone to be a chameleon then white gold. I even go with warm unplated white Gold.

there is no wrong choice it will shine in whichever color gold u choose=)2

I love the scrolly one too @ecf8503! I just wasn’t sure if it’s too busy or overwhelming for a step cut. This is my first so it’s a learning experience you know?

Aw thanks @ZestfullyBling, I have never had an emerald cut and I’m loving the shimmer. The fact this stone might look good in any color means I can’t mess this up too bad :D

I like the 14k yellow gold with engraving…

Looooove the scroll one!

Thank you @momofive, the scroll seems to be a favorite.

Thanks @MamaBee, how is your hand feeling?

@lovedogs, thanks for weighing in, would you do the scroll in white or rose…..or yellow?

It hurts @YadaYadaYada..We bought a wrist brace today. It helps a little. I told my husband that I will give it one more day. If it still hurts this bad by tomorrow night I’ll call the doctor for an X-ray on Thursday. Thanks for asking..

I hope it’s better tomorrow but definitely go have it looked at even so.

I fell (very gracefully I might add) down a huge inflatable water slide years ago and sprained two of my fingers. Honestly thought they were broken because of the pain but only sprained according to the doctor.

Yeah and the water slide was nearly as tall as the two story house it was at. Wouldn’t be doing that today, older and wiser :snooty:

I like the setting with the scrollls. I think white gold brings out the colour best.

I remembered I thread from years ago where someone was looking to reset their emerald cut. Found it after some searching, do love the look of this.

How do we feel about French pave? Also it seems like Blue Nile settings are highly rated, but are they overpriced?

Something like this maybe?

I honestly like the plain setting it is in now - white gold I presume - paired with either the 14 kt. gold band or the rose gold band. Those combos show contrast but still allow the diamond to shine on its own. Let it be what it is and compliment with bands of other colors.

@MissGotRocks, yes 14k white, honestly for the cheapest setting the original buyer picked from B2C, it’s pretty nice, can’t complain.

I appreciate leaving it as is and complimenting with bands. I guess part of me wonders if a rose gold or yellow would enhance the color of the diamond. On the other hand, white goes with everything so that gives a lot more options as far as bands go.

I think the yellow or rose gold would compliment the color of the diamond. White gold can sometimes be stark so the bands would soften the overall look IMO playing nicely with the white gold setting and diamond. It has to play well with your eyes though so choose what you feel looks best. The diamond is lovely so hard to go wrong!

Eeeee! I love this ring!
I would leave it as is.
Or if you must reset, I would look for a setting that compliments the angular and architectural shape of the stone.

Speaking from a design perspective,
I don't think the scroll setting you showed compliments the columnar cut of the EC, but rather competes and detracts from it.
Also, the scroll setting might be awkward for stacking.

Of those you showed, I prefer the etched band.
But the heart wants what the heart wants, so ultimately it's your choice, and Yada always makes the right choice!

@stracci2000, well the heart right now is just going to leave it as is. Down the line though I would like to look into changing the setting but not in a rush. Just gathering ideas for now ;)2

I like it with rose gold. I generally like stones with brown tint in rose or yellow and not white metal. Just my preference. Any chance you have considered setting it east/west?

Of course the more you research, more options will appear. In time, you will find the perfect setting that will be "the one"
But I have no doubt that when that happens it will be perfect, cause you have great taste!

I thought I would like the rose gold but actually prefer the 14k.

 I see a rosy future for this pretty little EC!

@oncrutchesrightnow, yeah this is the strange thing is depending on the lighting, this diamond could really be in any color gold pretty much. Thanks for weighing in!

@ItsMainelyYou, I do love rose gold, I’m really up in the air about what I’ll end up doing but eh, no rush. One thing is for sure, it will be a pretty simple setting, I don’t think she needs a lot of fuss, she’s really enough all on her own.

Maybe it's the mood I'm in, but I'm liking the idea of a pave band! I just think it's a different style from your other settings and it might be fun!

@junebug17, I do love the look of pave, I just wonder how delicate it is. I’m not hard on my jewelry so it might work! Thanks for your thoughts.

im in the rose gold camp
i like the scrolly one because it gives the band some width

Agreed; me too, the simplicity will be her strength but I'm not sniffing at her lines now, that's for certain. I always go gaga over the stones with undertones-even though we're told colorless, colorless! as the peak, for me it's the rocks with 'tones, hands down:love:

Have not read all the posts but a stone like yours is on my (never-to-be-fulfilled) wish list and I intend to use 18K palladium white gold. I have a vintage ring from Inken made of this stuff and it has a lovely cool (as in "not warm") brownish hue that I think would pair well with a nice pure brown (not yellow-brown) fancy or low-color diamond. It looks like slightly brownish platinum, if that's a conjurable mental image.

You can search online -- I forget where I stole these from.

I actually prefer the white gold. I thought you wanted a warmer metal. I have a .40 faint light brown, M, diamond set in white gold. I LOVE a brown undertone….

@Daisys and Diamonds, I do love rose gold, never really saw it until PS. Also a little extra width is always good for someone who has a little extra width

@ItsMainelyYou, yes I love the tones too, tend to like brown over yellow but it’s all good in my book.

@LilAlex, oh see now I was thinking there was an image I have seen if all the gold colors, thanks for that. I haven’t heard of palladium white gold but it sounds amazing, especially for a tinted stone.

@MamaBee, I don’t know what I want lol! Part of the reason I started this thread is to get some outside input because I don’t have a definite direction. Feel free to share your faint brown if you have a picture handy, I’m sure I’ve seen it but can’t picture it.
