Hi Everyone,
I am the new "official" member of PS but I have been reading up on everyone's post for engagement ideas/ advices.
My BF and I have been shopping for engagement settings for his grandma's 2ct heirloom and landed on this setting by JB Star.
I have not seen too many posts about JB Star so I am posting this to get some feedback/ insights.

This is the semi- mount setting from JB Star Website. It is total of 2 carats
http://www.jbstar.com/product/0890-001-platinum-diamond-semi-mount-handcrafted-with-10-perfectly-matched-round-diamonds-in-shared-prong-setting/

I attached an actual picture of the setting with the Heirloom placed. (Please disregard the prongs that are sticking out..)
The center stone is 2 ct, old mind European cut.

I have three questions for everyone.
1. Is JB Star known for its quality?
2. Are the side stones too much that it diminishes the beauty of the Heirloom?
3. Side Stones get smaller.. is it a bit too unique?
4. Is the ring just..too much??

Thanks in advance for your input!

Pick whatever your heart desires. If this makes your heart sing, go for it.

However it is a little bit too much for me. I think that stone would be flattered better with a thinner diamond and. Maybe something with a hint of vintage (millgraining or something)

+1. It looks decently made enough but like Niel I feel that there is much going on, especially in combination with your slender hands. Most important is indeed whether it makes your heart sing.

What Niel Said. It's a beautiful stone and I feel its downplayed by the business of the setting. Although that's just me.

Although if it calls to you, and you love it, go for it!

Thanks, everyone and I agree.

My goal is to avoid trendy settings to keep the E-ring more unique but I would hate to downgrade a beautiful stone for sure.

There are a lot of JB star settings I love, but I am not crazy about this one personally. I think their quality is very good. I tend to like a little bit more delicate but if you love it-go for it. It is definitely along the classic lines. It just doesn't 'grab' me. Again, that is a very personal thing.

There are lots of ways to make it unique. Ideally what kind of unique are you looking for?

You could do a different metal choice.

Maybe side stones with colored sides?

My favorite idea for that stone would be a thin colored halo.

Like this would be too cool with that stunning stone!

Thanks, Neil!

I guess the problem is I haven't really seen a setting that I LOVED. I do want to stay away from colored stones for side.
I would love a setting that could really enhance the Heirloom. I was considering this one as well from Verragio..

Have you ever looked at Beverly k? Fair price and vintage styles.

Single stone also makes beautiful, classic and unique settings.. another option if the antique style is what you're after.

I really like the jb star setting. Mine is similar. I like larger side stones and do not thinking overwhelms the center stone. It may seem that way from far away but when the wearer is always looking at it close up, it looks stunning. I tried to love all the skinny shanks but just didn't. Go with what you love. You're the one staring at it all day everyday. :)

Thank you for your post! I am still going back and forth from JB Star and Verragio Couture Setting with Twist Shanks..
Do you mind if I ask how large is your center stone is? and does your ring half eternity or a full eternity?
Thank you for your help!

Center is 2.59 and sides are 30 points each, 2 on each side. I actually wish they sides stones went down further on each side like your jb star, which I think is five on each side. Although I would not choose a full eternity. I would probably go 3/4, enough so that no metal shows even if the ring turns.

Let me know what you decide. :) I'm sure it will be beautiful either way.

I love the verragio you posted.

would it bug you to see a modern cut next to an old cut? i imagine those stone are big enough to see at least some of the faceting. Would it ever bother you seeing them together?

Actually, like LLJsmom, I don't think your choice is too much at all.... I LOVE IT !!!! Personally. 8-)

I am sensing 2 things here.
you MUST love bling anyway, because the 2 styles you picked seem to be pretty blingy !!!
(that's my style too !!!)

You must not mind the 2 different diamond cuts together (just like me)
or else it never occurred to you to notice it (*also like me)
I don't really feel like it matters if an old cut diamond is in a contemporary style ring.
as long as you love it, right?

But a lot of these PS'ers here are MASTERS at selecting things that are amazing and just right.
that's why you're here, right?

That said, if you are drawn toward the settings you originally picked,
then they are perfect. I really really really love that first one.

I would wear either of them in a heartbeat, just know though, that it's what makes YOU love it that matters most
I know that I am going to be here asking for help when I get my bigger stone.

I like it. What kind of band would you wear with it? That might change my opinion.

I like it too (both of them!).

I've looked at JB Star settings at a high end jeweler and they are very high quality.

Your center stone is large and beautiful- if you want to celebrate it as a vintage heirloom where it is the center of attention, you might want to go with a vintage setting- like a thin miligrain bezel or even a Beverley K.

If you are looking for lots of bling where your stone adds to the impact, both of the settings you posted are lovely.
