Shibui (渋い) - Octavia ring by Dr. Diesel & CvB

Even my DH is impressed! He says it's "slick" and "cool". I agree!

How did they get the diamond in there?
There are no prongs to bend.
Since it's not a tension setting that setting can't be pulled open.

:confused::confused::confused:

Muhahahaha!

It’s a new (proprietary) concept we collaborated on, so I can’t disclose too much. Took two castings to make it work, but this proves it’s viable. May become a “Signature” CvB thing in time. Still working out the details but, as far as we know, it hasn’t been done before.

I’m deeply grateful to CvB and her team for being bold enough to try the crazy s$&t I come up with.

And YES!! They really are miracle workers. Dreaming up an idea is one thing. Executing the required feats of engineering to make it happen IRL is something entirely different!

They are among the few true artisans left in our world!!

More designs will follow in the upcoming weeks & months!

What an absolutely stunning diamond. And the perfect ring to showcase it.

I'm not showing this to DH. The last thing I need is him seeing how good a man's diamond ring can look and getting interested...

It's gorgeous!!!

Awesome. I like it even more now that we see the side view. Something clicks mentally there. The fact that the top flat part is exactly the width of your finger makes the ring look so tidy.

Wow! Just wow! That's amazing.

Congratulations, @Dr_Diesel - it's stunning! What a work of art!

WOW! Awesome Ring.. Is that really black gold?? I saw someone mention that but not sure. Enjoy!

It’s actually platinum! We used Black rhodium to “antique” the finish and bring it to a nice pewter gray.

Wow! What a stunning Octavia and such a unique setting. I love how it showcases the octagonal outline of the diamond perfectly.

How does it compare with you Royal Asscher now you have it on your finger?

They are just vastly different stones. Categorically different IMO. The brightness, scintillation and fire of the Octavia blow everything else out of the water. I thought my AVC was bright...but OMG!!! This stone is insane! Full of optical surprises. Something new everyday really!

Check out the thread to see for yourself. Posts #47 & 58 have some nice comparison videos.

Would love to hear this. Objective and subjective observations, when you fall back to earth.

Check out post #43. If you have more specific questions, I'm happy to answer!

Thank you for noticing! That’s how we approached this piece. In the same way that @diagem approaches diamonds as 3-D sculptures, it inspired us to approach the ring design in the same fashion:

It's absolutely incredible. It reminds me of brutalist architecture I see around Chicago. I just can't believe how cool this is.

I was at a mall last night and just had to share this. The way this stone reacts to spotlighting is just silly

Phenomenal light show!
