Looks interesting mnovosel. How it compares in way of value though really can't be answered by the GIA Report alone. It is very likely it *could* be valued just as every other cushion modified it or there could be features about the diamond that do increase it's value that are not answered on the Report itself. Things such as optical symmetry (ie. the precision of the patterning/faceting) the overall dimensions ... ie. has this diamond purposely been cut to a specific geometry to accomplish a specific goal visually/optically or was it cut to ultimately maximize weight?

If you've seen the diamond and love it I would suggest having it sent to one of the more seasoned appraisers who can look at it and examine it for these factors. Neil Beatty & Dave Atlas come highly recommended.

Kind regards,
Rhino

It looks like a hybrid or "x-factor" Cushion stone. Does anyone know what this is...

Looks like a common four main pavilion with extra LGF's. A common practice...
These LGF's help sometimes solve small fine naturals left due to shape of rough.

While I am actually a photog, I didn't have my gear with me so I just captured an image with the phone. I looked at this stone side by side with another one which has a "crushed ice" appearance and this cut was more visually appealing under all lighting conditions that I saw (daylight bulb, window light, tungsten).

Now I need some pricing help!! It's a jeweler that I was introduced to on Jewelers Row in Chicago through a guy in the same building who is a family friend but does watches. He called him up and personally walked me over to his office (no store front).

The details of the stone are...
Cushion Modified Brilliant (not the standard crushed ice cut, but looks hybrid-ish)
Size: 1.32
Color: H
Clarity: VS1
Cert: GIA
Measure: 6.47 - 6.14 - 4.26
Table: 58
Depth: 69.30
Polish: EX
Symmetry: VG
Flouresc: N
The stone is On Memo
His quote: $8700

Mounting will be a very close match to this:
http://www.brilliance.com/engagement-rings/antique-floral-diamond-ring-white-gold-1/2-ctw
Differences in the mounting will be that it will be slightly thicker at the top and then taper with the ring having about 1.2 carats for a 2/3 shank (diamonds will taper from .08, .06, .04) and be the same G/H color as the center stone. Ring will still be 14k white gold.
His quote: $2900

Grand Total: $11,600 out the door

Any suggestions on my initial offer? In my research I see a stone very very close to this one through James Allen for $8100 in fact on the cert the cut is very close to identical.

I can't tell you much about the stone from that picture. If you say JA has a comp that's 500 or so cheaper, and this guy has a brick and mortar store... the price on the stone is okay but I would try to negotiate down.

As for the setting. It's a graduated rounds setting you want, but with that engraving on the shank? I think the price is reasonable for that too, here is a similar style setting for about that price (prices for PS members are 20% off MSRP) http://www.gabrielny.com/engaged/style/ER6664PT4JJ with 1/2 the carat weight of the one you are being quoted for.

Overall, I think the pricing you are getting sounds fair for a brick and mortar store.

Thanks for your response! One other thing is that he's got no ASET for the stone, and you expressed some concern over that style of pattern having a less than stellar performance. Is this something I should ask for in-house or get it tested on my own? It's not a very common pattern that I see, but I did like the sparkle a lot more than the usual Cushion pattern I see.

Pricing is in fact comparable to unbranded cushions so nothing to be concerned about on that front and very fair for a bricks and mortar store. Most here are in fact cut nuts which is why we like to see ASET's as a minimum. I too am a photographer so I appreciate your effort albeit I'd have to agree with Gypsy that the photo doesn't help much. Where are you located? Perhaps there is an appraiser who can give you the cut data you're looking for?

Hi Rhino, I'm located in Chicago.

I have seen that pattern in real life a few times. It is probably one of my faves in terms of modified cushion cuts.

https://www.pricescope.com/appraisers/richard_drucker You can try this appraiser. You would have to get the stone sent there or buy it and take it yourself (return policy if it doesn't work out).

I did see his info and left a message for them, thanks for the contact info.

In total we chatted a bit and the final out the door price we negotiated was $10,500. I'll have the stone checked out individually first and then the entire ring and make sure everything is kosher but the price seems pretty reasonable. On top of that once its complete, they're overnighting it to me since I'll be out of town.
