This always gives me such a visual (guy standing at the alter w/ pregnant girl''s father holding double-barrel gun at man''s head)
but thought I''d share since we had the modern equivalent.

Yes, I was 8 weeks pregnant.

No, we weren''t living together.

Yes the baby, Olivia, was planned - just not after 2 months of trying!

Yes we went to the Governament Center where they only accepted $40 in cash.

No we weren''t the only ones there.

Two friends took photos and the judge was a sweetheart.

Yes, I had the WB but no e-ring.

No, I didn''t wear white (I liked this great brown dress) no symbolism I swear!

Yes, we moved in together after I sold my house and left my job.

Perhaps now we are working on baby #2!!!!

BTW: no guns were actually involved. Family was surprised. We do want to re-do the ceremony eventually but for now we are great.

Yes, I eventually got the e-ring. YAY! Here''s to bucking - unknowingly - tradition.

Lisa your bubby is just too cute for words :) She looks like a bundle of joy :D

Congrats on the marriage, baby and all that. I think it''s a lovely story. A bit white wedding isn''t for everyone. Your wedding sounds absolutely beautiful, touching, and uncompromisingly about the two of you. What a wedding should be :)

DEELIGHT - Thanks for the nice compliments about Olivia. She''s a spitfire and we are half-dead as she doesn''t sleep and we''re old!

LLIANG_CHI - Very eloquently articulated. We did waver on the whole thing and I thought I''d post, not to make light of marriage and weddings but as you said
it was about the 2 or 3 of us. I bought all the mags and was small enough to fit into a dress until month 7. But with all the moving and change it was too much.

We actually met in an oddly romantic way.

He literally fell out of the sky - no joke!

Rock climbing fall - 60 ft! Was a trauma pt.

Was air lifted to my hospital (medical social worker) and we met in intensive care

(I climb too!)

Was the Universe trying to tell us something?

Lisa, I love your shot-gun wedding!

...and the way you met!

We eloped. City Hall--easy, just the way I like things.
We like to do our own thing our own way.

Olivia''s such a darling, and isn''t it great that she could be a part of your wedding?

She''s perfect! And Congrats to you and hubby on not doing everything so ORDINARY!!!

COATI - have been meaning to tell you congrats on the GIA program! Thanks for shot-gun support. Weddings can be so
pricey - OY! We don''t have a huge family and what is there is a bit crazy anyway.

BIA - I actually mourned, a little, the whole "city hall" thing but now it seems so minor in the scheme of things read: BABY!

My parent''s second wedding (the one to each other) was a shotgun wedding.
My mom actually announced to her dad by handing him a gag gun and the banner that came out said something like "bang, you''re going to be a grandfather". He was actually really happy, which my mom didn''t expect. She said she had an announcement at a family get together and my grandma said, "I suppose your pregnant” which is what she always says when some tries to take the center of attention away from her. She never expected the answer to be yes!
Anyway, 2 weeks later they were married on tax day on a friend''s lawn. They wore white sweats, had a friend who was a baker make a cake and played volleyball. A few months later I was born. That was 24 years ago and they are still very happy together. Yea for shotgun weddings!

Awww! Congratulations! The story of how you met was sweet (although scary!). I think it was meant to be!

BIH - LOL, a fake gun I love it! Your family sounds very fiery and colorful just like I like it!

Moonwater - Well after landing that job in Palm Springs I had no idead that the majority of the male pop. is gay. and so is the female pop.
So considering that I worked in a gay mecca and lived in the sticks, it was an uphill battle to find a decent hetero man. The sky was my best hope!

No news to where I came from..to each their own, I always say.

Hi Monarch!

So I take it u didn''t fall from the sky?

There are problems with that trust me. Like he has a titanium pole in his thigh and aches and creaks all over his body.

I think the fall did a little something to his brain too

BTW: I love your signature comment - too true!

Your little one is adorable!! Are you Korean? (looks like a Korean outfit she has on)

My mom dressed me up in something similar when I was a baby...

My FI and I have a similar traumatic accident getting together story!

We had been hanging out off and on for a few weeks (my college roommate was dating his work out partner) and we all went cliff jumping. Well the boys went for one last jump and as they were climbing out of the ocean, a wave came and washed them off/into the cliff. Future FI got washing machined about 3 football fields on coral reef. When he finally got out of the water and made it back to us, he was red from head to toe. The EMTs and firemen had to come to get him off the cliffs up the hill you cilmb down and into the ambulance. Well, one of the EMTs asked him if he wanted his girlfriend to come along. That EMT was the first one to call us boyfriend/girlfriend. He was discharged from the hospital late that night and stayed in my bed for about 3 weeks recovering...I often joke that falling off that cliff was the best thing that ever happened to him

Lisamarie - Why yes, Olivia is 1/4 Korean, 1/4 Russian & 1/2 Irish-Scottish. Erica kindly reminded that we did
put her in a Hanbok for her 1st b-day (4/4).

Mjso - Great story. I am glad that he recovered, sounds like a near-death experience. Apparently the accident didn''t
keep him down for too long. Sounds like everything is in working order I hope!

Oh my lord Lisa1 I have to say she is gorgeous! Sooooo cute! Thank you for sharing your story!

hey lisa
i bucked tradition too. had a "mini wedding" of 15 at a church, didn''t tell anyone we were engaged for 6 months until 1 month before the wedding. I just didn''t want a big production, my DH was a bridezilla though! ha ha anyway, everyone and their mother THOUGHT i was preggers and that it was a huge scandal (we both have BIG families) - mind you i was 27 and had been dating DH for 10 years so even if i was pregnant, it shouldn''t have been a big deal! anyway - the end product, marriage of 3 yrs and running is fab - no regrets=)
p.s. baby is sooo cute!!
