I was getting her G VS2 stones, DF, so my bracelet was going to be nicer! Recutting is not going to be worth it because she'll end up paying about what it would cost to just buy the 40 point bracelet outright.

The thing is, a bracelet with 15-20 pointers is a very, very nice tennis bracelet for almost anyone, and doubling to 40 points is a significant piece. There may be someone here with one, but I don't think I have ever seen one that large. I am with Sharon in thinking that 50 points is almost too much. There is something very elegant about a little line of sparkle on the wrist. I do think her bracelet needs to be larger than mine (10 pointers) simply to be complimentary to her other jewelry. But anywhere between 20-40 pointers would be a very nice bracelet for someone with larger diamond jewelry, in my opinion.
.50 ct G VS2 ACA for < $1K ea.?

No, I was speaking of excellent/ideal cut stones in the low .40's at G VS2 being under $1000. I'd still personally rather have a bracelet of G VS2 excellent cut in the .40's than SI1 at .50. You are still paying a crazy price jump at .50. If she really desired SI1, then go for the low 40's with SI1 and make it really cheap! ;))

No. I thought you were paring down your collection for only the most magnificent and important-to-you pieces?

Ditto. I wouldn't buy it.

Me three. Resist the deal Phoenix, unless it's EXACTLY what you would have bought retail anyway.

I 'd pass (although I sympathize, I know it would be tough!) Here is why.... As I read through the posts, I "heard" that a tennis bracelet is low on your priority list, that you are pretty confidant that you don't need it, but are unsure if you want it, and it seems like recutting the stones is something of a possibility.

If you are unsure that you want it- that's a big signal to pass. As lovely as the bracelet sounds, if you think there is the slightest possibility that you'll wonder if you should have waited for the ideal bracelet (or for the ideal pair of earrings, or any other of your top priorities), then this one isn't for you. When you come across that "forever " piece, you will just know it. No doubts.

Sometimes the best deals are the ones you walk away from (can't remember who said that quote but there are times when that is sooooo true!).

Good luck with your decision!

Just saying...even IF Brian is willing to do it for $6k ,$6k is still a lot of money, and don't forget about shipping + insurance.

And the cost to unset each diamond before the recut and to set each diamond after the recut. What is that cost? I think BGD charges at least $100 to set each stone, so that will bring the overall cost to $9000.
something doesn't add up... $100 to set ea. stone??..

Because if you really, I mean REALLY wanted it, you wouldn't need our permission lol

Yes, mother! :wink2:

UPDATE: I've decided not to buy this bracelet (nor her watch, if anyone else is reading the other thread). I mean it's a great deal but I reckon with hard and smart work, I could make that money (the "savings") another way. The cut on the stones, I reckon, would bug me in the LR - I am too much of a cut nut (thanks to PS :cheeky: ).

Thanks, everyone, for chiming in and for voting; particularly those of you who talked me out of it and posting the real and valid reason for not going ahead with the purchase. A special thanks, once again, to DS for just being really AWESOME!! :appl:

BGD charges to set outside stones. I recently had a diamond recut and set in a pendant and they charged me a $75 fee because it wasn't one of their stones.

Also if Phoenix is considering recutting each stone, then this bracelet is not for her. I think she is trying to talk herself into buying it even though deep down she probably knows she will regret the purchase. Just my opinion.

eta - just saw you decided against buying the bracelet - smart choice!

You have come to a good conclusion, IMO.

At your level, the only reason to buy anything is because it absolutely thrills you. If you don't have a strong emotional response to it, you'll be bored of it in a week and it will just be there along with other things that just don't matter too much.

However, you could mark this to your "account", meaning an item you passed up which potentially enables that purchase price to be added for a future larger item. It's not really fiction - buy not buying this, you have those funds available for a different budget allocation :)

Well good for you! You weighed the pro's and con's and what your comfort zone is and you were not swayed by peer pressure. (oh, that could have been me... just sayin'!)

The best part, is you are happy and comfortable with your decision- that alone is "priceless", as they say on MasterCard commercials! Good call, Phoenix! Kudo's!
