Should I re-size from 4.5 to 4.75?

My 4.5 size ring is a little bit tight. It feels just right on my finger and I could even rotate it freely, but not easy to pull it off - just takes a little time(5 seconds if I wear it alone and 10 seconds if I wear matching band together) and efforts. I tries size 5 in a local jewelry store and it''s definitely bigger than it wants it to be. The salesman suggested that I went for 4.75. I checked the websites of WF and BN. Looks like they don''t have three-quarter sizes. Also, I have a plan to lose 10 lbs. If I succeed, will 4.75 be too big for me? Just wondering if 10lbs loss will affect the finger size.

I can''t speak for BN but WF definitely can get rings in quarter sizes. I have one.

I also have larger knuckles and it takes my a little work to pull my rings off over my knuckles. But I prefer that and don''t want to risk my ring slipping off too easily in cold weather. 10 lbs would not make a bit of difference in my ring size. My fingers are boney, though. I think it just depends on your fat distribution. My fat is in my behind, none is left over for the fingers!

I would go ahead and size it up, but I like my rings to be somewhat loose. Losing 10 lbs, depending on your body, will likely affect your finger size, too. Since it''s not constricting your finger or hurting you, if it were me - I''d keep them as is, do the 10 lb weight loss plan and then see how it feels. Sizing up AND losing weight might make them too loose.

I''d wait until you lose weight. I lost 20 pounds and had to resize my rings from 6 to 5.25 (the saleslady tried to convince me to go for size 5 but I don''t like tight rings).

I''m sure they can resize to 4.75 I know WF for sure do 1/4 sizing. depends how long you think you will lose your weight? if its unbearably tight then I would resize it, but if its doable, I''d weight till you get down to your desired weight. as it may change again.

Sheeesh I''m learning a lot today. I was not even AWARE of quarter sizes!

I guess this explains a lot, as my girlfriend''s finger is slightly smaller than a 5, but definitely bigger than a 4.

Are there easy ways to measure? I have not seen a ring sizer so I''m not sure.

I think I would go ahead and size up, but I like my rings a little bit on the looser side. Fingers usually aren''t the first place to go down in size when losing 10 lbs.

Keep in mind too that different ring sizers can in fact be slightly different sizes even though they say the same size.

I would not like a ring that was too tight. I'd rather have one that was too loose. The way I do it is I try on the three closest available sizes. You've heard this story before. One will be too big, one will be too small, one will be just right. The one that's just right is just right, even if it's not.

Hold off on the re-size. 10 lbs will most definately make a difference.

When you go into a jewelry store where there is a shop for repairs right in the store, the jeweler can work with you to make an infinite number of incremental sizes for your rings. Rings can be sized over a distance generally with this selection: 6, 6 full,
6 1/4, 6 1/2scant, 6 1/2, 61/2 full, 6 3/4, 7scant.

The real stumbling block is that most stores do not have properly calibrated ring sizing tools and the jewelers who do their ring sizing for them have tools which do not exactly match the sizing tools used in the jewelry store where your finger size was taken.
This lack of standardization creates a lot of mis-sized rings and some very confused consumers. The cure is for both the shop and the jeweler to have identical ring sizing tools. This is a costly process, but saves time and expense in the long run.

Losing weight will alter the correct ring size.

It sounds more like a knuckle issue. I would size it up and put a horseshoe in it so it doesn''t spin. It will still be easier to take off.

See David Atlas'' post below about how inaccurate some sizers are. That said, if you just are curious about your GF''s ring size you can have her check it out at a jewelry store or at Target. Yes my Target has ring sizers right there on the jewelry counter. And the Target staff doesn''t push you to buy stuff, which a jewlery store might if the two of you were together.

I had my original ering and band checked at several jewelers and it came up as a 4.75. My band was originally sized as a 5 and slipped off my finger as we left the jewelers. I just got my new ering (sz 4.75) yesterday and it will be a little loose when it's cold, but my knuckle won't let it slip off and it's just right when the weather is warmer. 4.5 is definitely too tight for me.

I was around 120- 125 when I got married, a few years ago gained some weight (145lbs) and lost and now am 130. My ring size never changed. (My fat was distributed elsewhere)

My ring size didn''t change at all with weight fluctuation. I''ve gained 15 lbs since my college days and my ring size is still 4.25. It sounds like it''s too snug so I''d go ahead and size it up by a quarter size.
