I bought upgradeables 12mm round rose quartz. I've attached her picture of the stone as I haven't had a chance to take my own yet, and this is her thread on it https://www.pricescope.com/community/threads/monster-protugeuse-cut-rose-quartz-help-please.124284/

Its a lovely subtle color with a mesmerising cut. So now I'm looking for setting ideas :)

I think the stone might benefit from a bezel and probably look nice in rose gold although I don't want to spend masses of money on a setting. I'm undecided whether to set it in a ring or a pendant. I'm thinking 12mm would be big for a ring especially with a bezel. My ring size is 4.5 - 5

so show me how you set your large coloured stones for inspiration!

one of my fav settings from PS. obviously my stone is facetted and not cabochon

I think having it set as a pendant will be easier to wear than a ring, and might cost just a tad less as well. Either way, due to the size, no matter which way you look at it, it is going to sit up high and will take a good bit of metal. Is the culet very pointy? If so, you probably don't want the pavilion to be too open (collet bezel) or you'll risk getting your chest area stabbed.

Lovely stone & that setting is my favorite favorite pendant setting of all time. Whose was it, again? Would look super with your quartz -- and allow plenty of light to show off the facets. Seems to me 12 mm would be better in a pendant than on a 4.5 finger, especially w/bezel -- my pinky is a 5! Sheesh, I feel like a giant next to you. Great buy!

I too would be inclined to set it as a pendant rather than a ring for a size 4.5 to 5 finger.

I may add some colour by using lilac, mint or aqua blue stones, and have seen some nice pendant settings at Julia Kay Taylor's.

Thanks for sharing, as it is a lovely stone, enjoy!

My favorite setting too. :cheeky: And may I say it has held up very well since I got it-very sturdy despite the delicate appearance.
Hippi I love your rose quartz gem and think it would look great in that setting! I am going to see if I can remember who did it for me...

Of course, it's yours, Missy! I totally envy you. Most beauteous thing. Do you get comments every time you wear it? :wavey:

Pendant all the way. That size will have nice presence as a pendant. I'm actually wondering if rose gold will be too similar to the color to help it 'pop'?

An intricate, engraved halo could be fun...

I love that stone. My asscher is 11mm which may be more area than yours since it's a square. I wear size 4 and just rock that sucker. Leon Mege has a morganite on his page you may want to look up that is like the proportions of a ring pop. I think it's pretty fabulous. I'd find it but I'm on my phone.

Gah, kelpie, that stone is gorgeous. Sorry for the threadjack, but what kind of stone is that?

Kelpie!!, it is nice to see you. Is there a thread on your AMAZING ring?

Oh Dear!
Where are my smelling salts?
I am succumbing to the vapours!

I have an identical 12mm portuguese cut rose quartz! DanielM set it in a necklace in silver. I found the length too short so I have not worn it much. If I could do it again I would go with a a rose gold ring so I can see it! It is not a good picture of the stone but it looks so much like yours loose and head on.

Threadjack - I love Kelpie's ring - Threadjack over.

Kelpie, your ring looks like it belongs on the hand of a princess. That setting shows it off so well! The rose quartz would look great like in a setting like that I think!

wow that leon mege does look like a ring pop! and kelpie your ring is gorgeous! I'm not sore my stone has the color to pull that setting off.

yours does look similar ilovegemstones! I also think it could be a shame to set it in a pendant. I've got a little collection of stones going from the last few years and haven't set any of them yet. partly because I enjoy staring at them and playing with them loose.

missy if you can remember who made your setting i would be eternally grateful :) the 'prongs' are my favourite part of your setting its a shame i don't have a cabochon!

would it be impossible to set it in a bezel in a ring? because it would sit so high off my finger?

Just wanted to say that the rose quartz is lovely. I love Kelpie's ring too. I think it would be great set into a pendant on a long necklace (similar to the DanielM by Ilovegemstones) or great as a bracelet, strung on a double strand of pearls like FlyGirl's blue topaz bracelet.

Not impossible but the ring may spin (top heavy) and get knocked about often due to the height. How deep is the stone?

I have a 13-14mm amethyst which I wear set in a ring. It's a rather pretty colour but I'm not in love with the checkerboard faceting. I bought the ring for the setting rather than the stone.

It is, however, fine to wear as a ring. The setting doesn't get bashed around much at all, although I am kind of careful with it. It kind of reminds me a little of the Vatche Swan, albeit a rough rendition.

PS: excuse the unsightly burn on my ring finger. The perils of baking your own bread...

Sorry, forgot to mention I am a size 5-5.25.

missykittycat you have inspired me! i will not let the size of the stone prevent me from setting it in a ring :P I generally wear no jewellery or statement jewellery anyway.

To keep costs down I've been looking on etsy for setters and am leaning towards juliaB because there is a couple of ways I could go and she has done rings in these styles

One thought is to have it in yellow or rose gold because my inexperienced self thinks it might benefit from an enclosed colored setting. i wonder if setting it in white metal or a simpler prong setting would wash it out

A halo-like yellow gold setting. with this setting it would be huge but I've decided to just rock it ;)

white metal option again huge presence. the side angle suggests the setting would need a bit more strength for a stone this size

Design-wise, the buttercup will be beneficial as it is very protective and the enclosed setting will really amp up the colouration. Although I like the last halo setting, the openness of the gallery may need additional support for a larger stone, as you mentioned. I noticed that the stones in that halo setting do not have a pointed culet. Is it so that the culet will not poke as painfully should the finger swell on a hot day or it is just a coincidence?
