There was a thread recently in RT talking about light performance on OEC's relative to the faceting. When I took a picture of mine...hark no petals!

So that got me to wondering about how many of you have petals in the center? The crown on my diamond is totally flat with what I think is a large table so then is it transitional and not an OEC at all? Hmmmm

This is on my mind while I shop for a an OEC. How long ago was that thread I'm going to take a look at it.

Here are some of my OEC's. The first two are much smaller at .42 and .25 but for me I personally find I prefer no petals

And this is my no petal OEC that I started the thread with, no petals and this is the overall look:

I have both early OEC/Old cut and later OEC or transitional, I prefer the petal/checkerboard pattern. Both are gorgeous but I like the gorgeous flowery pattern.
In the dinner ring each diamond has it's own cut and it's pretty much blinding.

This is the Late OEC or Transitional and I love just staring at the petal/checkerboard pattern. I also have a smaller OEC halo ring with a petal pattern that I bought from another PS'er a year ago (No good photos).

I think both types of OEC's are gorgeous as long as they are cut well.

@foxinsox I love the petals on yours and that amazing band there, your ring has such a Deco vibe :kiss2:

I recently got an OEC CZ for a travel ring. I dont believe mine have the petals, but it still sparkles quite brilliantly.

This is a great thread with so many uniquely beautiful antique cuts. Thanks OP for the thread and everyone for the photos:kiss2:!

Great looking travel ring @Rubymal, I have an OEC cz ring too!

@missy hard to see the petals with all those gorgeous colors! Seriously though the facetinfnon your diamond is ring goals and love those old mine cuts too, so pretty!

Thanks @LightBright, I thought it would be a fun thread and gives us a chance to see how the different faceting effects the overall look. If you have one to share please do!

Gorgeous diamonds @PreRaphaelite, they are all beautiful but Edwina just has such a special charm to her, and still crushing on your buttercup ring :kiss2:

Thanks StephanieLynn, as you can imagine Edwina hates her modern rabbit ear setting and is terribly jealous of Buttercup’s yellow dress...
Ah the ramblings of a deranged romantic.....

I love seeing everyone’s old cuts and their centers! Great thread sister!

Petals in the middle of the reflective light show:

I wanted these badly enough I had the OEC recut to make sure I could always see the flower.

Older OECs have more like OMC faceting under the table and it looks like a marquis cross, not a flower.

This ring is absolutely stunning, my gosh I love everything about it :kiss2: Are those rosecuts around the outside? This needs its own thread for sure if you haven't made one already.

@Polyhex what an amazing stone! Gorgeous!
Seconding StephanieLynn - we need a thread on your ring pretty please!

Thank you so much @StephanieLynn @PreRaphaelite!! It's been a long journey, I need to say thank you to PriceScope for letting me lurk and learn here for 16 years. . As soon as I can get some photos that capture the faceting of the diamond in neutral light conditions I will make the thread. It's so hard to photograph it without it reflecting the surroundings. Brownish green below is my house and trees!

The side stones are 3mm rose cuts and 1.75mm calbre emeralds.

@soxfan gorgeous rings, whoever gets that first one is so lucky and the pear is like the perfect pear, beautiful both.

@GearGirly beautiful, I love the checkerboard faceting and your pear is divine, even in office lighting she is gorgeous!

I like the checkerboard transitionals SO much. I saw one from Erica- a J that was a fireball. It was so beautiful. Way over my budget unfortunately:( And it was an tranny in a J color so it was SO white.

No petals 1ct J i1 oec. Shallow for an oec, large table, light performance not great.

No petals 1.2ct H Si. Small table and shallow, beautiful snowflake but a bit dead under the table.

Has petals but somewhere between windmill and flowery 0.5ct m vs. tiny table, tall crown, super sparkly!! Well cut.

Flowery L Si1 1.12ct oec. Very well cut and great performance.
