This is my DH''s grandma''s ring, which his aunt gave me. A jeweler said it had elements of the Edwardian period and Art Deco, if I remember right. She got married in 1917, I think.

it does look a little of both. it is stunning! so much detail, that''s what i love about those pieces. you are one lucky person to have that handed down to you. it''s'' one thing to buy an antique piece, but it''s quite another to have the family history to go along with it. thanks for sharing! do you know the ct weight?

Thanks! Yes, I was very grateful when she gave it to me!

No. I haven't had it appraised yet. The best I could do is show a comparison of diameter with my 1.097ct AGS0 diamond, although of course it's not apples-to-apples since grandma's diamond is an old cut, so diameter isn't necessarily the best way to compare, but it's the best I can do for now.

I just picked this up today! It''s a .52 OEC set in platinum. Inside is engraved 1-5-37 . . . I wish I knew the story behind this beautiful ring!
I absolutely love this! I''m completely jealous!

So this is my grandmothers engagement ring. It is engraved with, ''Nan, I love you. TDDUP 2-6-54.'' I love this ring, my mom gave it to me for my 21st birthday! I never take it off...
Lovely!!

Here''s my white and yellow gold, sapphire and single-cut diamond ring. I guess it''s deco - it''s from the 1930''s.

What a cool ring! It''s beautiful!

thanks for posting that side by side view of modern and old cut, ive never seen the two side by side before, thats really interesting! that edwardian setting does so much to acentuate that old cut, its amazing. they really knew how to do it up back then, huh?

wow, that is a nice peice! how well does a sapphire fair from the 30''s? i mean, is it in perfect condition? i guess it depends on how much it was worn? i see older sapphires set in older rings, but usually they show some wear or chipping.

oh tulip, i love your ring, what a find!

Tulip, that is one gorgeous piece.
