Wasn't even looking for a Mahenge because I'm so madly in love and satisfied with the one I have, but I came across this one and am thinking maybe I want to give it a shot and see it in real life. 1.77ct, 6.3x8.8

I see it's kind of purple, and somewhat extinct towards the ends. I hope it pans out for you though. Sorry, just want to be honest, as I know you've purchased so many of these gems, and have been disappointed. :((

After looking through this thread today (   ), I remembered that my brother has a black light. Got it out as soon as I got home, and wow! how neat :) My ~1ct Mahenge trillion pendant, and a small red spinel ring. The red is a nice color, but poor cutting I guess, it looks dark in the center. Cell phone pics.

It was actually super red with hardly any pink. It was pretty, but not enough for me to pony up the dough. Tis alright. I love my mahenge.

Well, as the sparkle luck would have it - I found one that is worth pony'ing up the dough for. I'm selling off my stocks to get it. Wish me luck.

Good luck!

What a beauty! Hope all goes well with the purchase. Post pics as soon as you get it.

Oh I have it! The vendor was nice enough to send it to me to look at because he knew I'd love it. Damn him! *shakes fist* :-P

OOOH, it's a beauty

Athena, are you comfortable telling us who the vendor is? How big is it? It is lovely.

There are several vendors who send stones on memo, in case AW is not comfortable disclosing.

ETA: Athena: it makes the other one (which I adore btw) look completely blah! I love how you have persevered in your pursuit and it is paying off in spades - or should I say in Mahenges? :appl:

Thank you! The irony is that I had stopped looking! Some friends of mine had a buying spree in NYC and looked over tons of this vendor's stock. They photographed the good ones and I just couldn't help myself. At the time I had some $$ burning a hole in my pocket so I tried it out. It turned out to be too dark, but when the vendor asked me exactly what I was looking for, he said he had something just like what I wanted. So that's where this came from. Of course in the meantime I'd spent my $$ on my spess setting (and the downpayment on my aqua) so I was tapped out. But really - I've searched long enough to know that this is a very unique color . . . thus the liquidating I'm doing on DB.

Wow Athenaworth, that stone is gorgeous! What great color...

I love it!!!!! Tell us more about it. :)

I'd like to add my new red mahenge spinel to this fun thread: 3.01ct - 8.3mm red mahenge spinel (there is no pink at the bottom, that's a reflection from the light).

First photo is up close and personal via my macro lens. Second photo is next to a reddish pink mahenge (that I returned so I could get the red even though it was beautiful) and a red chatham ruby for a color comparison. Next photo is sitting with some sunlight coming through the window.

And this one is with a flourescent light ring - kinda of blurry, but a fun photo (I think). And one from the side that does a good job of showing the real color of the stone (which is so hard to capture).

Good lord that's pretty. I can't wait to see it set!

Thank you. I'm going to need some help with that because I have no idea how I want to set it... Have you decided how you want to set yours?

OMG I die!!! What a gorgeous Mahenge. I rarely see any that are round and yours looks huge. I like the side picture of the stone the best as the camera picks up the incredible color. You have hit the Mahenge jackpot- congrats!

OMG!!! you gals are so lucky!!

It is from a vendor that a friend discovered at an Intergem show. Their website isn't up and working yet, but they hope to have it functional shortly after they return from Tuscon.

I got a couple of more shots by the window yesterday during the short period of time that we had some sun, but at least we DO get sun here.... when I lived in No Oregon, I wouldn't see the sun for days (and it often felt like weeks).

They don't show off the stone very well, but my point and shoot is an oldly and I can't get very far away with my macro lens.
