You start with the round studs. Then you have the pears set with little upwards-pointing posts at the tip. The little post has a little loop on the end. The loop can be threaded over the post of your round studs and removed at will. So you have plain round studs, or they can be dressed up to have pear shaped drops when you want something more substantial and more dressy! Oprah has an ENORMOUS pair, although I believe hers have pear-shaped diamonds, top and bottom. We less worthy mortals can only dream....
