Sight Unseen Pear

I've been on here for long enough to know that it's a bad idea, especially from a drop-shipper... but it meets all of my criteria! I mean ALL, even the silly little things that would make me the pickiest consumer ever, like flouro and a culet. Plus, the GIA certificate is on my birthday!
No access to ASET or photos of any kind...
Also, it's a GIA SI2 stone and those vary tremendously on their eye-cleanliness...
It's so hit-or-miss and a substantial amount of $$ to drop on a bet... even if there's a full refund, it's a pain...
Also, the girdle is thin to extremely thick-- a potential danger....

I need some more CONS before I get the BF to take out his wallet

Since it's from a drop-shipper (as opposed to a jeweler's in-house inventory) and you know the GIA report number, can't you ask a preferred vendor to pull the stone for you and evaluate/take pictures of it?

it would be one thing if it was a round, but a pear? oh it could look like
anything!

if it sounds like your dream stone i agree, see if someone else can pull it

Nielseel, that last one in the link is exactly what I'm afraid of, but proportionally-- and I started looking up stones with similar dimensions-- it shouldn't be so bad...

see, it could have shoulders like the last one, or a huge bowtie, or a weird carbon splotch like the the first one. To big of a chance if its a drop shipper!

I hope someone can that one for you.

My diamond was cert'd on my birthday, too! If it's not in-house at a jeweler, I'd def call Jonathan at GOG to pull it up, and have him do all those science-y nitpick-y tests on it. I have a pear, and I am not happy with it. I "used my eyes", and yes, by eyes it looks fab, but it just doesn't perform that well like any of my other stones, so I rarely wear it anymore. Get the ASET and all those other things.

I think getting a PS vendor to pull it for you is the only way to go - pears vary tremendously! I'd love to see a photo of it as well, if it has a culet!

You need to reevaluate your criteria!
I think these should be included and you have no way of knowing this about this stone.

- lovely shape
- minimal bow-tie
- nice faceting pattern
- eye-clean

If you are feeling lucky you could order and return it if not happy.

I would want to see it AND have an ASET. I've seen way too many fancies with the perfect specs on paper but look like duds IRL.

Thanks everyone! I've emailed GOG about it and told the BF, he's all for it. Madelise, the culet is definitely not that big, although that'd be amazing... It's a very small culet, but hey, that counts in my book!

For the sake of that culet, I really hope it turns out to be a winner! I love pears with culets
