a few more oh..metal is 18k wg. Gemcal's description said silver lavender pink spinel. I see more blue in this one. The pink peeks out depending on how the light hits it.

2nd and 3rd photos were the additional ones Hemi emailed to me per my request

TL-I really appreciate your comments . I have learned so much from your forums and post. I was so apprehensive about posting this because I know how you love spinels and I didn't want to fall short. I was on pins and needles awaiting your post because you are so very honest, no holds barred and extremely knowledgable. I hope im not being offensive to you by saying this. You are right about the luster and brilliance. I can't beleive it! I am very impressed with its performance. The light return is superb! Its one thing to read and research that spinels have the highest refractive index than any natural gemstone, being closest to the diamond. Its another thing to actually SEE it!! Kind of mind boggling!!

Thats the 1st think I noticed about this spinel too. Seems to have different variations (depending on how the light hits it) pinks, lavender, blue viloet! Its very intriguing to me.

Thank you jstar! I was looking for the smaller diamonds because of the size of this gem. Didn't want the spinel to feel suffocated. I wanted it to breath freely and be relaxed. You are right about the vendor photo. I took a gamble. His photo didn't show the array of colors in the gem.

Actually, there are a few gemstones with a higher RI than spinel and some higher than diamond, like sphene, demantoid, natural rutile, sphalerite, cerrusite, but they are really too soft for jewelry wear. Spinel is great in the fact that while it's still dispersive (in the violet and lavender hues), it is very durable and hard. I also like that your stone appears to have a nice crown, (can't see the profile view, but would love to see that too), which helps with the dispersion and brillance. Congratulations on what is a wonderful and well thought out project. Spinels can be addicting, I must warn you!!
