Silvery-blue unheated sapphire - what to do with it?

This is one of my “learning” stones purchased by a pricescope vendor that wasn’t such a bad purchase other than i kept it without knowing if it was a color I could wear. I prefer yellow gold and this seems to just be begging for white metal. I could consider a two-tone design but the stone is still silvery!

I might just post it for sale but first I thought I would see what you all think. It is a gorgeous Tanzanian unheated and superbly cut color-changing sapphire. It has a blue tone outdoors and is more silvery indoors. Sometimes I just see sparkling silvery-white brightness and no blue at all. It’s truly gorgeous but it’s mainly cool tones and I don’t know if I would wear this with anything. Or could I?

What do you all think?? Here it is with 18k yellow gold and white diamonds.

The first pics were all indoors in bright natural light.

Here are some Outdoors in direct sunlight where it is a pretty pastel light blue. If I turn my back to the sun it goes to almost white like a Diamond. FF83AE60-3646-4EDB-BA7E-D96682DB8CD5.jpeg6B414BF1-C439-4C5A-B2DA-64516BEE91A3.jpegE795B5FE-DB46-4AE8-A312-08E39EB9819C.jpegIt’s growing on me.

Very pretty! It's a versatile stone and I love the silver color! There's a mercurial feeling to it, too. I'd set it in white gold. I mix my metals all the time. It seems like anything goes anymore, especially when I see people wearing plaid with prints! :oops2:

The color is such that it will go with a variety of colors, styles, and moods. You can put it in a simple halo or with small side stones and it would work in casual and dressy situations.

Thanks. I might consider a two-tone but I have one white gold vintage ring with diamonds - it has a yellow gold shank but it’s white on top - I like it but I don’t love the white against my skin.

I just realized those photos above of the stone are not that great - the second set outdoors should look more of a pretty pastel blue but it looks dark grey in the photos.

I would Gypsy set it with 2 light pink round stones as side stones.

DK :))

Seems like I'm the odd one out who thinks it looks fabulous next to your yellow gold ring, so my vote goes to yellow gold.

I’d go unplated white gold. It’s “whello”

I just noticed your profile photo and you sure know how to mix metals! I'm in love with that design. May I ask who made that for you?

Is there a thread on that ring? Love...

Sapphires that colour shift (which is what yours is doing - not colour change where it leaps to the other side of the colour wheel) are always interesting stones and, personally, it would be a keeper for me. The problem is finding the right colour metal that suits all of its personalities! Can't wait to see what you do with it.

White metal if you want a more icy grey look. Yellow or rose metal if you want to ring out more blue.

Same goes for side stones. Pastel pink to bring out the blue. White stones for a more icy look.

I think I need to see some photos of jewelry with this type of stone. Right now I’m leaning towards selling it only because I have so many other stones that need setting and they will probably come first. This is my only sapphire although I do have a lavender one on the way!

If you don’t like the stone enough to want to set it, or you’re having doubts about setting it, I would sell it. To me, I think a stone should scream at you to set it.

However if you want to see a plethora of grey stones in various settings, do this search:

“Grey spinel ring”

Spinels are almost identical to sapphire in appearance and are popular as a grey gem.

I think I’m the world’s most indecisive person. Although I do decisively decide to purchase stones that I don’t really ‘need’.

So here’s today’s photo of this sapphire. I’m sitting near a window in the morning and it’s taking on almost a minty-greenish-blue silver color. Very cool!9FD346CA-EDDB-4E3B-A8EE-CF501AB42869.jpeg

Thank you! It's from Caysie at CVB. It's her Clara ring that we tweaked to halo the octagon cut and highlight the stone color.

It's beautiful! I vote a simple solitaire pendant in either PT or WG.

Her designs are gorgeous but unfortunately way out of my budget. I love what you did with this one - it's perfect.
