After getting my first strand of emerald greens from PP last year, I started noticing what color pearls work with my skin tone.

For instance, I’m fair (but not white, white) with red undertones, but when I tan, I don’t get that nice golden color. I get more copper and the red always stays.
I thought, silver with blues would work on me. Well, I found out after buying the silver/blue akoyas that the blue gets lost the strand looks more of a silver/grey.

Greens, aubergines, and browns look much better on me. My coloring seems to bring out the best in these shades and actually amplifies the color.
So now, I’m going to take that into consideration when deciding on my next strand. I still adore blues, but it would have to be a true blue, or silver with very dark overtones not to get washed out on me.

What about you guys? Do you take your coloring into consideration when buying pearls? What colors look best on you?

I do take that into consideration. I have a little "Lebanese" in me so my pigment doesn''t get too pasty in the Winter time..LOL! Since I receive my tahatians in the Winter, I can''t wait to get a nice tan to see if the colors of them really "POP" with my skin tone. I do have a little pink-red in my skin tone so I would love to get some silvery gray tahitians like Swedishbeans that have the cherry overtone!!!

Elle, Your new FF strand with the multi colors looks great with your skin tones

It is interesting to see how skin can bring out undertones to pearls really well- or not, as the case may be

I think the right pearl colors can make your skin glow- they''re one of the more flattering types of jewelry IMO.

My coloring is generally pretty dang neutral (pale skin, black hair, really dark eyes) so it''s pretty rare for pearl colors to look actually *bad* on me. Some do look better than others. I guess if pearls came in orange or mustard yellow they''d look hideous on me!

With white pearls, I do best with rose or pink undertones- stark white or silver is too harsh. Though I''m quite pale I do have olive/yellow tones to my skin, not pink, and creams and any off-whites rather than stark whites are better on me.

Purples, especially darker ones, are the best colors for my skin- always has been even in clothes. So, deeper lavenders with blue tones and aubergine Tahitians are the ideal pearl colors on me. I can wear most darker jewel tones well, which is good for Tahitians. Peacocks, multicolored strands, and emerald greens are good- not quite as good as purples, but definitely flattering.

Earth tones- browns, yellower greens- don''t really look that good on me... so no pistachios will be in my future.

Pastels aren''t my best color- pale blues especially- I do better with colors that are intense or dark. They wash me out like pure white does. I still drool over those baroque Akoyas though! But they wouldn''t be that flattering on me. Greys are better- definitely wearable on me- but not my best color.

PS- that nice "golden" color from tanning? LOL! I get it and I always feel like a toasted marshmallow from it. I tan very, very gold/yellow... and I envy the people that tan a more normal brown. So I avoid the sun like the plague.

Guess the grass is always greener!

ooh.. Garden, I didn''t mean to imply the new strand isn''t working.. I totally love the way it looks with my skin tone. But I got lucky as there aren''t too many silvers (and by silver i mean ones with overtones that get washed out on me). Funny thing though, there''s one smaller pistachio pearl that i bring out the yellow in. Glad its towards the back.. lol But hey!! you never told us what you prefer?!

Well, my skin tone is olive, I can get very sallow looking in the winter. The south seas give me an instant pick up and seem to restore color,so I''d have to say the south seas &pinkish toned pearls are best on me. Putting them on is like going for a facial,or wearing makeup. Great thread. I, m convinced, pearls enhance complexion on us all.

) I don''t get a great tan ever, I get a tan-reddish look. It''s ok.

I don''t wear ''hot" colors- I don''t own red, orange or yellow shirts- cream and pinks are pushing it.

So, most of my wardrobe and pearls.. and make-up even, is a little on the cooler side. I don''t think I''d be able to pull of golden south seas.

Just saw the pics of your new pearls! They look great on you!

The subject of skin tone and the perfect pearl colors is interesting. I think basically it takes trial and error. You have to really see what they look like against your skin to know for sure. I have sort of a bit of orange to my skin and am pretty fair. I get golden if I tan ( although I don''t go in the sun much ). With white pearls I have found I look better with silver or cream tones. Pink overtones don''t look very nice on me with a white pearl but with my baroque akoyas it looks fine.
