Sleepy Sapphire

I'm with Chrono and CC - I doubt very much they have a backlog of people waiting to buy that sapphire for that price...

What do you guys think of the color of this sapphire? It seems less sleepy. Is it a better sapphire?

No video. It is not set, they just put the sapphire on the setting to illustrate the color.

I like this color. But it looks to be blue/violet. Someone can correct me, but I think having a lot of violet is less desirable (and less valuable) according to trade standards. My guess from the picture is that it has a very small window (an undesirable clear area in the middle of the stone caused by improper cutting) that may close upon setting. If you don't get a video, ask if it has a small window.

Actually, violetish blue is a highly desired colour for sapphires. The window is also very small and should almost disappear once set. I would rather see the stone on the hand itself, not in the setting. Somehow, it looks awfully dark in the setting, compared to the original stone only picture. I am trying to get a sense of its true colour.

The 1st sapphire has a better color to it but the cut makes the stone look so dull and that price makes me cry. The 2nd sapphire has a much nicer cut and will definitely sparkle more, but the color is not as good.

Definitely ask for more pictures, especially in hand shots. What is the price on this 2nd sapphire and what are the dimensions? Heated or Unheated?

I am not sure if you have a specific size you are looking for but you should check these options out.

The first two are in the same price range as your first stone and they are over 1ct larger. I am really loving jeffdvs101 selection lately.

3. This one really vexes me. If that center stone really does look like that then you should give them a call and see if they will sell just the stone. It is a 5ct stone tho so not sure if that is going to be to big.

Those 3 are pretty sapphires but why are the first two, which are heated, priced like an unheated sapphire at $2000/ct? Is pricing for heated sapphires online that high now? The 3rd one is too risky to purchase since there is no lab memo (but I'm sure this can be arranged) plus there is a 15% restocking fee which works out to losing $1050 if it isn't as pictured.

Excellent points on the 3rd stone Chrono! I bet that is just a stock photo they use and its not even the actual stone.

As you know I keep a close eye on the sapphire market and there definitely seems to be less and less distinction/separation of heated and unheated stones. Almost like online vendors don't think there is a need to charge less for heat treated sapphires.

Now in Jeff's defense it does say make offer but in my experience 10% is usually the best you will get from eBay dealers. Which for the first stone would equate to $1900/ct. Still very high for a heated stone, but maybe he would take less? $1200-$1500/ct is more the ball park these stones should be priced at. And I only go that high because of the excellent color, saturation, and 3ct+.

I just did a quick Google search and it looks like he has a website outside of eBay. I am sure a better price could be had if one were to contact him that way. eBay's 8-12% fees are brutal for a seller and that is on top of the 3% that PayPal takes.

I feel bad for so many sapphire hunters right now. The market is not in there favor.

Jeff Davies' face can also be found in a book that serves as a popular social media outlet. Link on his website. He seems to update there just as regularly as ebay and, as you thought Justin, the prices listed for his "friends" there are better.

Ah....I see that it must be the eBay fees being the reason for the much higher price there, in addition to some other unknown factors which results in a much lower price when purchased from his website. Still on the higher end of the expected price/ct but not totally out left field.
