I''m watching the news right now and the Tiffany''s store at South Coast Plaza was robbed. They have video footage of one person taking a weapon and smashing into their cases. I haven''t been able to get much more information....anyone hear of this story?

I hadn''t heard about it but rest assured that a PSer WAS NOT involved.

If we don''t shop there we don''t rob there.

How horrible!!

Was it after hours or something? Every time I walk in there (NoCal) there are armed guards inside the entrance during store hours.

That''s horrible.

I remember after Katrina, my fiance''s dad who is a sheriff deputy in a small town in mid Louisiana was sent to guard the complex where Sak''s and Tiffany''s was located in New Orleans. They did pretty well standing guard and chasing away would be looters for about 2 weeks after the hurricane. Then, one night they were recalled as everyone thought that there was a chemical explosion from a plant near them. When they returned two hours later, Tiffany''s was swiped clean (just what they were able to access to) and looters especially women were running in streets trying on expensive shoes from Saks.

I was in one in San Diego the other day and the 2 guards were talking (loudly) about how they didn''t have any money and how overdrawn their accounts were.

They obviously must not be paying them enough!

Eh...does anyone know what was taken and what the spec was??? (only joking)

On a serious note, it must be extremely traumatic for the staff, after something like this has happened.

South Coast Plaza jewelry store robbed
Pepper spray was used on a security guard.
By JENNIFER MUIR
The Orange County Register
COSTA MESA — Police are searching for two men who used pepper spray on a security guard at a South Coast Plaza jewelry store Wednesday night and escaped with more than $100,000 in jewelry.
The men entered Tiffany & Co. about 7:30 p.m. armed with a hammer and pepper spray. One man sprayed the guard, who was standing near the doorway, while the other broke a glass display case and grabbed a sapphire-and-diamond necklace and earrings valued at $111,500, Costa Mesa police reported.

The pair ran out of the mall and were last seen in a blue pickup heading east onto Sunflower Avenue. A ground and air search was unsuccessful.

“It’s a pretty unusual circumstance,” Lt. Loren Wyrick said. “Over the years there have been occasional jewelry stores robbed at South Coast Plaza. But it doesn’t happen very often.”

The guard and about 20 other people were affected by the pepper spray. They did not require treatment, Wyrick said.

The first suspect was black, 6 feet tall and in his early 20s. He had a thin build and wore baggy jeans and a dark hooded jacket with a sports insignia.

The second man was Hispanic, 5 feet 7 inches tall and in his early 20s. He had an average build and wore baggy pants and a dark hooded jacket.

Anyone with information is asked to call police at (714) 754-5206.

Diagem.....thanks so much for the article! I was looking for more information as I''ve been to this Tiffany''s many times, but couldn''t find more info...

I remember going to Tiffany''s in NYC and they subbed us outright! My friend really wanted to buy a silver moneyclip for her DH, and not one salesperson came over to us as we were standing at the counter...

Very frustrating!

That was the one (in Fashion Valley) that I was treated so shabbily.. snotty employees.. fine, don''t take my money.. its your loss, not mine..

I can''t stand that store..
That''s the one! They''ve redone the whole store and it looks lovely though!

I agree with you about the employees, but one of the girls was really sweet, but the older "gentleman" who actually helped me was a complete snob. It probably didn''t help that I told him I wasn''t impressed with the modified cushion that looked sort of like an asscher! He was a dork before that actually, which is why I felt free to make the comment!

They have a lot of diamond "eye candy" in that mall! Love it!
