Thankfully, she looks fantastic in her new setting (IMO of course) and any onlooker would be hard pressed to know there was a flaw. Since I know I'm not the only dork to do this, I'll share with you all that I've named her Cersei (from Game of Thrones, with golden hair and emerald eyes). She has a golden crown and her color shifts from sparkly gold to sparkly amber to sparkly green (hardly an emerald green but whatever). The hidden little secret underneath the crown makes her comparable to Cersei too. Don't judge me too harshly; it's my slow season at work and I've got a little too much time on my hands.

Anyhow, the pics! As everyone says, the appeal of this stone is crazy hard to capture in a still photo; as soon as the camera (phone) focuses, the sparkle disappears. The dispersion I can't seem to capture is my favorite part, but oh well.

I didn't realize until now that the pictures are all sideways. Sorry!

So classic and bright. Does she still shift for you?

Kelli, just gorgeous! Makes me jealous. The chip has no effect that I can see -- wow!

looks great...and looks great on you!

Wow Kelli, it is just beautiful! I love the size and color of the stone, and the setting is really pretty. It looks so lovely on your hand!

It's gorgeous. The thin band is perfect as it makes the stone 'pop'. Looks great on your hand.

I love it....and I love her name. I'm a big fan of Dany...perhaps I need some platinum and purple bling next...

Yes, definitely some platinum and purple bling!! I love Dany too!

Chrono, I do still see plenty of colors depending on the lighting but my pictures don't really show that. I see olive, gold, amber, brown, sometimes even a mustardy yellow. Sometimes as I move the stone around they all kind of show. Sometimes it goes dark kind of like my diamond does in sunlight, but even that I don't mind because then I can see the light twinkling off the many crown facets. When it looks its best, it reminds me of pictures I've seen of sphenes with tons of dispersion. Maybe I'll try for some better pics when I get some decent sunlight.

Thanks everyone! I guess I have thing for round solitaires, and the way this particular crown setting shows off the high crown of this stone... I really enjoy it. I think I'll need to try this setting/round chunky stone combo in some different colors too!

It is absolutely gorgeous!!!! I adore that setting. And the stone just glows!

I missed the other thread. Is this a chrysoberyl? And who did the setting for you?

It's awesome that you still get various colours with it set. It looks really good on you.

GORGEOUS!! I love that colour - and the fact you can see all of the other tones in it... Doesn't look like the little chip affected it in any way. What a relief, eh??

Your setting is PERFECTION!! I adore that ring!! Did you post somewhere where you found it? Was it an etsy vendor, or am I getting mixed up? (its a serious possibility, so be kind... ;)) !!)

Cersei - perfect!!

Thank guys! And now to ruin the allure of the gorgeous setting...

It's a stock setting from Stuller, as are all of my rings. I live five minutes from my jeweler and he can usually get the settings in and have my stone set within a week- usually for about $250. This one I ordered in 18k and it cost $380, but I brought in some old gold I don't wear anymore and got it for $230.

I also recently discovered that this setting, along with many other Stuller settings, is available in sterling silver. Since the stones themselves are what I truly care about and I'm very careful with my rings (recent chipped stone aside), I think I'll end up with a few more versions of this ring.

Oh, and I forgot to mention it's a mali garnet:)

I love how it came out! I wouldn't be able to stop looking at it!

Wow! That is beautiful, I think the setting is perfect with the stone!

Thanks guys:)
