So I decided on this 2.237 Carat round..thoughts?

That stone will look gorgeous and huge! I would, for sure, go for it! The Brian Gavin Signatures I have seen were all stunning! Congrats on a great pick! I can't wait to see how you set it!
(the price seems very reasonable, I would pay that)

I am leaning towards the tiffany style 6 prong knife edge...

Thanks! Exciting times

I don't think you can go wrong with a BGD signature stone  And their Tiffany settings are my favorite!

My thought --- AMAZING DIAMOND! That is a fantastic well cut diamond. I agree, I don't think you can go wrong with a BGD signature stone. I'm glad you reserved it so it won't get swooped out from under you! Congratulations on selecting a perfect stone!

It is gorgeous.

BIG and on sale today!

GO FOR IT!

What was the setting you had in mind? A six prong right?

HI:

What's not to love???

cheers--Sharon

I really like the half round Tiffany. http://www.briangavindiamonds.com/engagement-rings/solitaire/classic-tiffany-style-half-round-18k-white-gold-5478w18 Much more comfortable to wear than the knife edge.

I do have to just put in a second option. I really adore this setting: http://www.briangavindiamonds.com/engagement-rings/solitaire/eternal-grace-18k-white-gold-5704w18 It's very close (and in my opinion nicer) to the Cartier 1895 setting. GORGEOUS, especially with a large rock. http://www.closettherapyblog.com/blog/wp-content/uploads/2008/04/cartier.jpg <-- Cartier seen here.

I thought the hard part was over.....I def need to double check to see what setting she wants and see if shes comfortable with the knife edge

Youve been a great help throughout this whole process

FYI, this stone didnt apply to todays sale....unfortunately

Oh! I didn't know that. The H was on sale. $22,000 today.

Yes, I would check on setting with your lady.

Four prongs or six. Knife edge or comfort fit.

I like the half round better than the knife edge as well. I think 6 prongs will look better on a stone of that size but 4 or 6 prongs really comes down to personal preference so I would check with your gf first...

i love all the settings mentioned in this thread. Very classic IMO

congratulations!

Looks like a winner to me...very large...you can't go wrong with a BG stone. Nice choice!

You chose perfection. Killer stone and perfect size!! :appl: Congrats!!

I know she went to Tiffany and said she liked the 6 prong knife edge...but

is there a big difference between that setting and the half round? do they appear to be the same for the most part?

This is somewhat of a surprise and she has no idea ive done this much research or even bought the rock!

I have heard the knife edge is uncomfortable...is that the general consensus? I mean it seems to be a popular setting, so I dont get it

TIA

My feeling is that while the knife edge is classic, and it IS what Tiffany carries, the half round is an improvement, and also... it doesn't look like it's trying so hard to be knock off of a Tiffany, and is instead itself it's own ring.

Other available 6 prongs that are lovely and less 'knock off' in style:

Personally I adore the basket of this one: http://www.briangavindiamonds.com/engagement-rings/solitaire/diamond-faceted-crown-18k-white-gold-5687w18

Also lovely: http://www.briangavindiamonds.com/engagement-rings/solitaire/rebeccas-ring-18k-white-gold-5689w18

Just to let you now the knife edge is uncomfortable.. I know cause I had this setting from BGD ;)

I would say the 6-prong half round or the ones Gypsy posted! Beautiful! Let us know what you decide!

i vote no on the knife edge. I agree its so similar to the point of knock off. Not knocking it, but id hate if I had something so iconically Tiffany but wasnt that people kept asking me if it was... Aso I wouldnt want an uncomfortable ring. The round is so classic but JUST sliiightly different enough to invite comparison without mistaking it with a Tiffany. So if she loved the Tiffany one thats what I'd vote for. Plus I bet unless you mention it she may not even notice.

Beautiful stone! Stats that are right at my sweet spot, and a great size.

I would go with the 6 prong for sure (extra security for a large stone), and half round. I don't like knife edge bands, and agree that it looks very much like a direct Tiffany knockoff. I know some people love the look, but it just appears uncomfortable to me. I feel pinched LOOKING at it, let alone wearing it.

Regardless, whatever setting you choose, this ring is gonna be gorgeous.

Thats what I was looking to hear...

Im definitely going 6 prong and now leaning towards the half round

I agree with your decision. I think you are getting security with the 6 prongs; classic with the Tiffany style and comfort with the 1/2 round.

Good choice! When do you plan on having it set and then delivered? If its a Dec 25 or 31 proposal - is there still time? (I have ZERO idea how long the process will take from here on in, just thought I'd ask!)

No set date...I just feel I'm ready to do it, ha

BGD mentioned i was 2 days late for Xmas but could make NYE if I hurry up and decide on setting and get ring size.

She hates surprises. Naturally, i want to surprise her.

Another vote for the half round. I've never tried on a knife edge but it just looks uncomfortable. I doubt she would even notice the difference. All she will see is a gorgeous diamond in the perfect classic setting.

Went to BGD today to finalize everything. Got the pleasure to meet the next generation of BG, his son, showed me some different settings.

I personally was not a fan of the knife edge. Half round was nice.

I decided on a stock 6 prong setting to have when I ask. And we can decide together on the setting at a later date

So far, my experience with BGD has been exceptional. Quick with emails and calls, very helpful, supportive, and IMO great product.

Ill post pics soon

Thanks to all of you for your help during this exciting time...you guys make life easy for, what was, a clueless guy like myself

That is great to hear your positive update, khal!! I'm so glad it is working out and that you are having a wonderful experience!! I am a big fan of BGD myself... ;))

I also think that's a great plan - set it now and then pick a setting that pleases her, later. Good call! :appl:

Great work! Cant wait to see the finish. Yes PS has got a lot to answer for.... which means that i view diamonds soooo differently now... :D :D :D :D :D :D :D :D .

I have a knife edge setting and I don't find it uncomfortable at all. The half round is a lovely setting so you can't go wrong with either choice, but I just wanted to put in a good word for the knife edge :D

Congratulations! Can't wait to see pictures.

Is it normal to get cold feet? I feel as if I didnt see enough diamonds and getting a good price is important, especially bc its a huge cost...

I guess I need some comfort from ps

BTW- ring should be in on Monday and pictures will follow
