Okay, so if I order my letterpress invites right now I''ll get them in 4 weeks, which would be June 2. So a little less than 6 weeks away from my wedding, which is July 11. Is that cutting it too close? (I have a feeling the answer will be yes but I need to hear it from other people!)

My opinion is yes, it probably is too close. If you are set on them, could you get the envelopes early? Then you can have them addressed and stamped so all you have to do is put the invites in them and send them on their way.

That''s what I was thinking...maybe I won''t get the envelopes letterpressed (cheaper that way anyway!) and that way I can address them myself. Ugh I am kicking myself right now. The website said 2 weeks out but they recently changed that to 4 weeks out because now is obviously the busy season for them! Why am I such a stupid procrastinator?!!!!!

I think it depends. Did you send save the dates? Are most of your guests local? If the answer to these two questions is yes, I think you''d be okay, but if your guests don''t already know the date of the wedding or will have to make travel plans (booking flights, getting hotel rooms, anything that requires a bit of planning ahead of time), it could be a little short notice. If you only have a few people that would fall into that category, could you contact them via email or something and let them know the date and location of the wedding and that you''re mailing your invitations shortly but wanted to give them plenty of time to make arrangements? Lastly, is there any way your invitations company could put a rush on your order and get it to you a little sooner? Sometimes, they''ll charge you a fee to get them to you sooner. Good luck!

We''re getting married in 6 weeks and we only sent our invites out so people started receiving them today. If most people know about the wedding, I wouldn''t worry too much.

I did send out save the dates! However, most of the guests are not local. I asked about rush orders but they are booked on rush orders too. Hmm...I think I might just order them tonight and get the envelopes without printing so I can address them ahead of time. EEEEK sometimes my slacking bites me in my ass!

Okay good to know! I''m going to order them right now I think!

Hey there.
I''m getting married in 7 weeks and ordered my invitations last week. I procrastinated ++ even though I knew which ones I wanted.

Slight tip - the quicker you can approve your proof the quicker the invite goes through so type carefully! I had a mistake in my spelling in proof 1 so that held things up slightly.

However, if you sent out save the dates then it shouldn''t make a big deal if the invitations are a little late in going out!

Hey Thing! Not quite *too* close. Just on the cusp. Naughty bride.

I believe that the standard is 6 weeks. If you have a large amount of out of town guests, then it is suggested to send them out possibly 8 weeks in advance, however, you''ve sent save the dates recently so with the date drawing nearer, I''m sure people have you on their radar.

Get on it, girly and you''ll be fine!

... and ... just on the enabling tip ... do the letterpress envelopes too.

ACK I don''t know what to do! My twin sister and mom sort of freaked out when I told them I wouldn''t get the invites until less than 6 weeks away from my wedding and now they''re freaking me out!

Plus the invites are more than I thought they''d be-they''re closer to $800 with shipping and everything and for some reason I had it in my head they''d be like $500. Hmmm...I''m going to have to think about this overnight and research some more. I may have almost learned a valuable lesson about procrastination.

I think you are fine, especially b/c you sent out save the dates. Everyone from OOT should already be starting to figure out travel arrangements already anyway.

I feel like I sent my out too soon which was 6 weeks before the wedding. I read that you send them out 4 to 6 weeks before the wedding date, which gives you plenty of time. You will just need to pull an all-nighter to address them and send them out.

What did you put as your reply date? I would just want to make sure that the guest gets the invite like 2 weeks before the reply by date.

Good luck!

Yes and no.

I agree with getting the envelopes and stamps ready to go...but also if you sent out STDs, people already have the heads up. The only person this could potentially hurt is you...because you''ll have a short amount of time to gather all the RSVP cards and sometimes people are sluggishly slow!

Unless everything is stamp ready you are going to need at least a night or two to get them that way, Thing2.

Can you go with a different invite... one that will take less time?

Haha, agreed. If people are aware of the wedding, then they have probably already decided on whether to come or not, but people can be slow to RSVP, so it might be more of a rush for you to get all the RSVPs together and get final counts for catering etc. I don''t know if you had a "round 2" of invites, but that would be tricky too given the time limitations.

I don''t really have a suggestion for you, but I did feel the need to say...

Good Job Thing2!!!!!!!!

Cutting it that close would make me nervous... but obviously other people are okay with it. Honestly though, I don''t think anyone is going to be upset if they get their invitation 5 weeks before the wedding!

Is there another place you can order from? You might find someone that is faster, but you''re probably already set on the invitations you picked out. If you''re REALLY laid back about your invitations, you could always buy a print-yourself kit from Target or Michael''s... I printed mine in a day!

http://www.theamericanwedding.com/

I got mine about a week after my online order. Sent them out that weekend, exactly six weeks from my wedding. Everything worked out perfectly. And I got tons of compliments on them.

Are you totally set on having your invitations professionally printed?

I got my invitations at Michael''s and printed them at home. I changed the color of the ink and added a ribbon in a different color. With the envelopes lined by hand in green vellum, they looked like a pro job and they cost around $75 including shipping.

As your punishment Thing you have to purchase the pearlized sparkly Disney invites with prince charming and a pumpkin coach. (not that there is anything wrong with that invite, just that it is not at all Thing''s personality)

Its fine, breathe. have them send you the envelopes, address em yourself and stamp them, the rsvp envelopes will take you one episode of SVU to stick and they will be in the mail the next morning.

If you had not done an S.T.D. I''d be saying look into other invites. But you spent the time and energy already, just freaking order them (no typos!) NOW!

I just got an invite a few days ago (no save the date was ever sent) for one of my friend''s weddings that is just under 5 weeks away. I''m happy to have gotten the invite and will be attending. Don''t sweat it! Just get them out as soon as you can and stop beating yourself up.

According to my print shop, invitations should go out 6-8 weeks in advance, so if they are right, you should be on time. We are sending ours at 8 weeks (to arrive 7 weeks out) by choice. I actually a 6 week timeline is a real good one. All your Type A guests will have made arrangements when the StDs went out. But, for your less organized or procrastinating guests, they will get the invite and hopefully feel motivated to act on it and make travel arrangements.

And, printing was unexpectedly expensive for us, too. I suggest you get the invitations you want because of it! /enabling

Thanks everyone! My fiance is on the case today and we're going to order the invites but not get the letter pressed outer envelopes. I'm just going to buy the outer envelopes locally and address them ahead of time. (It saves us $125 by skipping those so maybe it is good to procrastinate!

) We'll still do the letter pressed response envelopes, though.

I just don't feel like picking another design and hunting down a new printer!
