Sorry to threadjack a little, Purselover, but Tarepanda, how was the experience of working at the same firm as your SO? My BF and I are headed to the same firm this coming summer. We actually talked about it at length, because we both had offers from two different firms, both of which were high on our list, and ended up going with one of them. I''d love to know what it was like to work at the same firm - ours is really big, so we figure if we don''t want to see each other, we don''t have to, but it''ll be nice to be near each other, even if it''s only so we can grab coffee for 5 min or so.

It was definitely a great experience. We actually met while at the firm, and completely kept our dating under wraps while we were there, but it was fantastic to take a quick coffee break at Starbucks - actually, we were just talking about how much we miss the afternoon breaks or grabbing lunch or something like that now that we''re long distance! I think it works the best if you are in different departments, and it''s a large firm, because after graduation, if you two end up going back there, that way you will never have to be "ranked" against the other as being the same year and in the same department once yearly evaluations roll around. I found it to be really refreshing that we could talk about our work and never have to be on the same case team. That being said, there was a couple that summered together at the firm that I started at, and they were both litigators (but had different focuses - IP vs. employment). They ended up staying at the same firm for 4+ years - and getting married during our second year there! So it definitely does work. I hope you both have great summer experiences

Interesting! I had a momentary thought when I was reading your response that your firm was mine - I definitely know of one couple there who were in litigation, met there, and got married, lol.

But yeah, I think BF and I will definitely be in different departments - me litigation or bankruptcy, him corporate or tax. And it''s a huge firm. So hopefully it works out. Thanks for responding!

tarepanda....thanks for chiming in! And thanks for making me feel a little better
