I am in love with Audrey. She is my ultimate!!! I want her so very bad right now!

Re: 2.55ct Old European Cut diamond + optional vintage setti

Oh Gem, I'm sorry to see this up for sale again - it really is such a beautiful piece!

I know you've had some ongoing concerns about size and colour and I think you're completely right to keep an open mind about changing stones... but I hate to see you take a loss on another one  I'm pretty impulsive too and I've wound up making some snap decisions that I've regretted, so - well - I have to say - and please know that I mean no offense: I really like your idea of holding onto it for a bit and letting your feelings settle after this roller coaster. The diamond won't lose value in a month or six, and I often find that having something physical with which to catalogue what I *don't* want is a great way to figure out what I *do* want, and maybe in a month or two you'll have added a few more things to your list - a certain type of faceting, some setting details you wouldn't have thought of up-front...

But I'm sure you've already thought of all that! So I should really just say good luck with the sale!!

Re: 2.55ct Old European Cut diamond + optional vintage setti

Thanks missymoo and the_sun_is_shining!

Yssie, you are so right! It would be smarter to just hold on to it and let the dust settle. This is silly, but I tend to want to keep it the moment I post it for sale  Maybe circumstances will force me to keep it for a while, buyers with $10K in their pockets don't come around everyday. But neither do diamonds with Audrey's perfect faceting! ;)) Anyway, I'll keep her up for sale. Don't want to be too wishy-washy.

If I'd won MegaMillions as I'd planned to this weekend it would have been on my hand by now since I'm just up the road :naughty: But there is another drawing tomorrow, so hopefully soon :$$): Seriously, though, if it stays listed for another 3 months I may have to gift it to myself, gah - it is so beautiful!

Thanks carmen! Good luck with the lottery, I'll keep my fingers crossed :cheeky:

Gem - thank you for not taking my comment the wrong way! They were just more thoughts from one impulsive diamond-nut to another  Actually it seems like you're in a really good position: if she sells quickly, well, great! And if she takes a while to sell that's fine too! But I'm confident she will sell sooner or later - she's just too pretty not to ::)

Re: 2.55ct Old European Cut diamond + optional vintage setti

(Put her in the vault for a month and don't think about her, then see how you feel when you visit her again. I am like you and get the urge to sell and fine something new. And when I do, I put my ring away and take a PS break. There is a time to get off the hanster wheel. You won't decide to keep her (or anything?) if you have the option of selling. Fickle pickle O-U-T).

Re: 2.55ct Old European Cut diamond + optional vintage setti

Thanks guys! This is truly excellent advice and my logical mind is telling me to follow it. Maybe when my ebay auction runs out, I won't renew it and will calm down for a bit.

But in the meantime, I just bought my old 1.01ct J back from the person who bought it from me almost a year ago. Shall see what it will feel like to go down in size. So that's going to be keeping me busy.

Re: 2.55ct Old European Cut diamond + optional vintage setti

Congrats on getting your old stone back! I must admit that I love wearing my 1.09 OEC even though I have it for sale. It's a great size for everyday.

Thanks, I'm pretty excited  I realized that diamond was the one that had sentimental value to me out of all the diamonds I've burned through in the last two years. It's the diamond in my wedding pics. :halo:

I love that! Congratulations on getting your diamond back, that's quite a feat. Hold onto her, you might not be that lucky again.

Re: 2.55ct Old European Cut diamond + optional vintage setti

What a crying shame that this diamond was separated from its original setting for naught. Oh, the fickleness of PSer's.

I'm kicking myself for it. Way too impulsive. But the ebayer who bought the setting seems to be very happy with it, so it continues its glamorous life.

Oh I'm so glad you got your original diamond back, GemFever! I'm such an OEC fan, and lurking through your saga with Audrey I was QUITE shocked to see you'd posted her for sale so soon.(I made my fiance look at it too, "ANOTHER ring? Ooooh!") But you've got to do what's right for you. I know here in Seattle, I would feel uncomfortable wearing a ring that big everyday. If it doesn't sell, put it away for a few months and think on it.

Thanks ShinyLizard! I was pretty surprised at myself for wanting to let it go so quickly. But I realize I've always wanted a whiter stone. Circumstances were such that I couldn't return Audrey when I first bought her (after I realized the color was considerably below K). And I just adore the faceting. And I love her size, but not in my social circle. Ugh, it's not easy :halo:

Audrey next to my little 1.01

PS tends to foment impulsivity, unfortunately.
I'm so glad you got your original diamond back.

Gem, I was so sad to see Audrey up for sale. I think she is one of the prettiest OECs around and I love her in her new setting :(

Thanks misskittycat. I'm sad myself, but I can't continue to look for the right OEC unless I let Audrey go (or wait a couple years, which I definitely don't have the patience for).

But for now she's still mine, and I can make a stack like this one

GemFever; I'm schoked. Audrey is something I'm dreaming of. Hope she'll find new, good home. If It were possible, would be hers new home with me. Forever.

+1!
You apparantly did not change your mind in the meantime, so it's probably a good decision. I was sad to read your post though because she looks so refined in her new setting. Hope she finds a good home soon to enable the purchase of your truly ideal diamond!

Re: 2.55ct Old European Cut diamond + optional vintage setti

Thanks guys. She may be sold as of this morning (on ebay). I will wait until I know that the new owner is happy with the ring before I officially feel she is sold.

I'm just enjoying the 1ct for now. Too tired of the search process. It's nice to have the 1ct back, to see again all her quirks and characteristics, and her special faceting details... I don't even know what to compare it to. It's so cool to recognize these little things in your stone.

Re: 2.55ct Old European Cut diamond + optional vintage setti

Sounds like great news!!!
I am so glad you have your old stone back :D

Re: 2.55ct Old European Cut diamond + optional vintage setti

Gem - you sound like me! You're not a Libran are you? Audrey is an absolute beauty and I think you're right to hang on to her for a while (though if I had the funds I would be nagging you to part with her). I totally understand the worry you have with regards to your social group, too. All my friends, without exception, would think us totally mad if they had any idea what's been spent on two rings this year! But everyone has different priorities. I would never think of spending the amount of money some of my friends do on smoking/holidays/clothes/cars - tick whatever box because each of us has a different way of living. That's what makes it interesting when we get together :)

I discovered PS earlier this year after seeing a beautiful ring in a jeweller's that I had bought from regularly many years ago. I bought from his grandfather and father as they tend to sell older second-hand and unusual stuff, but had been unable to get into town for a decade due to illness (so I'm pretty sure I missed out on some lovely things). The stone looked different to my old stone and I was told it was a Transitional cut. It was love at first sight. He also had an antique cushion, but that's another story.

The main thing that had bothered me for a while was the slight (but pretty) tint on my MRB. I was looking for a higher colour and it was a G (though looks whiter than that - I compared it to a CZ - but putting my old ring next to it really showed it's tint). However, I've been wearing the Tranny since the summer and had my old ring professionally cleaned for my right hand, and, would you believe it... I've been re-falling in love with my old stone because of the tint! Since cleaning, my old stone has literally come to life and has been throwing out colours to rival the Tranny, but in a totally different way and almost enhanced by it's lower colour (J-K - but with a very strong fluoro so it looks whiter especially in different lighting).

I've found I now really love the vanilla and cream tones in the older stones since seeing some of the beauties here, and have looked around locally for older cuts and designs (I'm officially obsessed according to OH) that I've seen here. Remember the antique cushion? Well, that was a beautiful warm ivory set in between six whiter old cuts and I found it under the tree yesterday - and it's become my favourite ring (though I haven't told OH that!).

I've gone from really, really wanting a larger, whiter stone in the summer, to really, really loving a smaller, tinted stone in six months. And knowing me, I will change my mind again in the future, so the moral of the story is to keep hold of Audrey for a while, at least until you find another that you really want to replace her (do you have trade-in options over there - or at least would someone hold the future replacement until Audrey is sold, freeing up funds?). And don't panic and let her go for less than her worth either (even though I'd love to find a bargain priced Audrey!). She really is a beauty, especially in her new setting, and is just waiting for you to fall back in love with her in the not-so-distant future. Love her and wear her with pride and in the meantime, I wish you luck with what you decide in the future.

Re: 2.55ct Old European Cut diamond + optional vintage setti

Thanks for your post Ssteel!

Time will tell whether selling this beautiful diamond was the right decision for me or not. Right now she's with her new owner, and if all goes well, that will be her new happy home. I will update once I know for sure she's not coming back to me.

Thanks Acinom! ::) My little 1.01J looks petite on my finger by comparison to the other stones I've had over the last nine months, but I just adore her faceting and color.
