I bought this stone from a really lovely private seller on ebay. It was one of those buys where there was no information at all about the stone, but I took a chance. I was looking for a match for an OEC I already own, to make earrings or side stones.
The diamond is not a good match for my existing stone, unfortunately, in color or table size/crown height. I am sad about this because it is a really well cut OEC, and much as I would like to hoard all the OECs in the world, I cannot afford to. The seller will accept it as a return, but she is a real diamond and ebay newbie it seems -- she shipped me the diamond before I had even paid! -- so I thought I would offer it here for sale to see if someone wants it before I return it on Monday. I would like to help the seller out by not returning it, and also would love this diamond to go to a loving home. It deserves it!
The seller provided no information about the diamond and I have not had it appraised. So this information is only my opinion!
CUT
The stone is 5.25mm according to my jewelers calipers, with an approximately 57% table and rough estimate of a 63% depth. It seems to be a later OEC with very good symmetry to my eyes, with proportions similar to a modern RB -- larger table and relatively shallower crown compared to some OECs. It has an open culet and very chunky facets, in my opinion it is a true old cut. It is a very bright diamond, well cut, sparkly, and chunky. Not the best cut OEC I own (that would be my 5.2mm one), but it is still an excellent performer and I would wear it proudly.
COLOR
It is warmer than my EGL graded I color OEC, my best guess is the L-M range. I am color sensitive, this stone does not read "yellow" to me, but it is warm. Compared to my more colorless stones the tint is apparent.
CLARITY
My guess is the clarity is Si2 - I1. It has a black inclusion under the table. The photos show it in glaring honesty! In my opinion, this diamond is technically "eye clean" though as the inclusion cannot be seen on casual inspection at 10-12 inches. The inclusion blends in well to the facets. I think this stone is ideal for a pendant, but if you do not mind a glimpse of an inclusion now and then, it would also be a lovely ring diamond. This diamond is NOT for people who have mind clean issues about clarity or who like to look at their diamonds really really close Like many a mature lady, she prefers to be adored from a respectable distance
PRICING
The best conservative comparable I can find on OWD is this M SI2, which looks more tinted and is less spready and perhaps more poorly cut than this diamond, and retails for $760: http://www.oldworlddiamonds.com/detail.php?ID=980&SHAPE=EU
I paid $499 and will sell for the same, including shipping and insurance.
Sale is final, be sure to ask all questions before you buy!
