Solitaire settings for yellow diamond e-rings?

Hi all-

As some of you may remember, earlier I was looking at sapphires for an e-ring (old thread here). After a number of subsequent visits to stores to see stones in person, however, my gf began to change her mind and started leaning towards yellow diamonds ( :errrr: )

Fast forward a month, and now I have picked out the perfect stone- a 1.75ct, fancy yellow vs1 cushion-cut diamond. As one would imagine, however, my budget has been stretched to the maximum by the change in stone. I have $1600 or less for a simple solitaire setting, and was hoping I could get some design ideas from the wonderful people on PS. I haven't been able to find too many images of simple solitaire settings though. Yellow diamonds most often seem to be paired with halos, sidestones, or pave, but I know my gf doesn't like halos or sidestones, and pave would fall outside of my budget range (or at least, good pave like LM, VC, would).

I am hoping to get a platinum shank with a yellow gold head to enhance the color of the stone. The two requirements are that the shank taper towards the diamond, going from perhaps 2mm down to 1.75mm (roughly), and that it not be a bezel. Otherwise, my gf is wide open- cathedral, tiffany-style prongs, the whiteflash X-prongs- she likes them all.

Anyone have photos of good yellow diamond solitaires that I could look at for inspiration? Any settings I should check out that would look especially good with a cushion-cut yellow diamond? Thanks! :appl:

Yellow diamond in solitaire setting for e-ring?

Have you checked with DiamondsByLauren?

I did- I actually met with David a few weeks ago, and he was very helpful, though I ultimately decided to go in a different direction. I love the "uberflower" setting they have (so pretty), but they don't offer it for non-DBL stones, and it would have been outside of my budget anyways.

I guess I'm looking for photos right now to inspire me, more than I am specific links for settings that are within my price range. I only gave my price range because it eliminates Victor, Leon, and the custom hand-forged setting-route.

It is just so rare to see yellow diamonds in solitaire settings, so I thought I would come to the PS experts to see if they knew of any posters with yellow diamond e-rings or remembered any old threads that weren't popping up after searching.

Thanks for the link though!

I take it from the lack of responses that I was right that there aren't very many people out there with yellow diamond solitaires. I guess I could look at the tiffany website for inspiration

Edit: Nope- even Tiffany only has bezels or halos!

I guess that is my real concern though- no one has pictures of yellow diamond solitaires! Will I be making a mistake going with a solitaire setting? There must be some reason why almost no one (DBL excluded) has photos of yellow diamond solitaires.

Many women on this board love bling, so center stones are usually flanked by sidestones, a halo of diamonds or something else. There is absolutely nothing wrong with a solitaire setting if your GF loves that style.

I love Leibish, but they only have one non-halo solitaire, and it has pave- but at least it gives me an idea. Thanks!

Pretty? What do you think about this?

I have one but it's a pear not a cushion. If you're looking for photos expressly for cushions and solitaires then you're narrowing who will post up photos. If you're just looking for ideas of solitaires with a cushion shape then you'll have more luck asking for photos of those because I think more people have coloured gemstones.

I'm open to solitaires of any gem even remotely yellow colored. If it helps increase the number of people who post photos, I'd love to see non-cushion cuts too!

Here are some I found from a Google search. I discounted anything that had side diamonds and just concentrated on solitaires:

I wouldn't be deterred by the "unique" factor of a yellow solitaire. I think most yellow diamonds are encircled by a bezel or halo to emphasize the colour, but that doesn't mean a solitaire wouldn't be beautiful! Just look at Heidi Klum's gorgeous yellow gold/yellow diamond solitaire!!!

Maybe you could post some pics from the cushion thread that you like (in terms of style, and that might mimic the proportions you're after), and someone could photoshop them yellow for you to get an idea?

As far as finding a vendor to create what you want:
JbEG makes a leon-esque solitaire, and the price listed for palladium is close to your range. It could be worth sending them an email with your vision and budget and seeing what comes back. http://jewelsbyericagrace.smugmug.com/JbEGSignatureSettingsandSpecia/Plain-and-Pave-Solitaires/The-Jen-Solitaire/12794541_BXdL4j#!i=872657687&k=6VaAP

Whiteflash might also fit your budget with something like the Legato that could be modified for a yellow-gold head: http://www.whiteflash.com/engagement-rings/solitaire/legato-sleek-line-solitaire-engagement-ring-728.htm

Solitaires are my favorite generally speaking too. Can't go wrong with one -- they are beautiful. There will be nothing wrong with it at all, I think a yellow diamond would be pretty.

I'd go to a B&M to get some ideas of what some of them look like if you want to see some.

I'd recommend sending a message to Wink at High Performance Diamonds: http://winkjones.com/index.php?page=contact

They should be able to make a solitaire setting with a white gold/platinum shank and a yellow gold head, and they work with customer's stones.

ETA: If you like the uber setting from DBL, Stuller makes a setting called 'Tulipset' that has a similar profile. Here's a link to an example on their website: http://www.stuller.com/products/150105/?groupId=7712 High Performance Diamonds can order a Stuller setting like this one to fit your diamond and they can customize the color of the head and shank.

Beautiful!

I will have an update for everyone in a few weeks. Lets just say, this has been very helpful :naughty:
